I'd rather spend the McGinn money on trying to tempt Ki back up the road. Pretty sure he's available on a free.
He's got the likes of AC Milan and a relatively loaded Everton looking at him. The McGinn money wouldn't even make him pick the phone if those rumours are true unfortunately.

Agree though, he's a far better player.

You mean Ki is on his way?

There were rumours we were talking to him.

Thought Rodgers had already stated that Kouassi was Brown's long-term replacement?
If we sign McGinn, I’d say that was a pretty clear sign that Kouassi isn’t in the picture. His lack of opportunities last season - even towards the end of the season when other fringe players were getting a run out and Brown looked in need of a break - spoke volumes.

And he's a proper fenian. You can never have enough in the squad.
From a long-time Celtic-supporting lineage, too ;)

I think we'll sign McGinn and I think he'll improve as a player at Celtic.

I've not seen anything in McGinn that we don't already have in abundance in our midfield.

Disappointing if true.

Surely not ANOTHER waste of money? Not much of a judge of player that he's never worked with before is our Brendan :(

Thing about McGinn is he clearly has talent (unlike Hendry, which was a weird comparison earlier in the thread). If Rodgers can bring him on the way he has done with the likes of Brown and McGregor, he'll be a good signing at that price. Brown's not getting any younger, and when he's not playing, we miss that aggression in the side - something McGinn obviously has.

So in theory, I'm not against the signing. As long as it's not affecting to heavily our budget when signing top class centre backs and a right back that can improve the first team immediately and not look out of place in the Champions League.

It happens. My gut feeling is that the Zenit second leg, when he got hooked at half-time, was the game that convinced Rodgers that Kouassi isn’t the answer for us. We’ve seen almost as much of Compper as we have of him since that match!

Don't really see the point in signing McGinn, TBH. Maybe I'd feel better if we threw in Ciftci and De Vries as part of the deal.

I think it does no harm. He is best midfielder outside Celtic in Scotland. He is a Celtic fan and as long as we identify guys like Dembele, Ntcham etc... there will always be a place for and need for Scottish talent.
Johnny Hayes was the best player outside the club last season but has struggled this season stepping up to us......

I know he's ROI compared to home grown but I'm pretty sure he had a soft spot for us before joining.

He was 19 when we signed him a season and a half ago. Since then he’s played an increasingly limited role, to the point where he wasn’t even given the chance to start any of the dead rubbers at the end of the campaign when most fans were calling for Brown to get a rest ahead of the cup final. Maybe he is in the plans; actions would suggest otherwise though. At the very least, I think he’ll be leaving on loan.

If Armstrong is away then McGinn works as a relatively cheap signing who keeps our homegrown quota filled. He's clearly a good player, not what we need, but if he's the first of a few faces in key positions then fine.

He was just turned 19 when we signed him, he's still only 20. Young guy with lots of potential, I reckon he'll grow in prominence with us over the next couple of seasons, there'll be a lot of work going on behind the scenes to develop him

I'd be very happy with McGinn.

I think he's a cracking wee player.
