On the subject of Roberts, it's pretty simple.

He doesn't want to be here so we don't want him back.

No disrespect to the wee man he was excellent for us but he obviously doesn't see a successful career in playing for us.
I think it's even more simple than that. Paddy Roberts wants the best deal for Paddy Roberts.
Depending on the options available to him, a return to Celtic might serve his interests better than any of the alternatives.
It will come down to what offers he gets.
He will sign for a mid table EPL outfit I bet.
He's probably waiting to see where KT goes

Don’t see EPL team coming calling. Exactly as we have seen with Wanyama, Armstrong, VVD, Forster. Celtic is a unique platform for young players  Paddy knows this, i feel he’ll be holding out for maybe something else. But it doesn’t materialise it will put us in a good position if he wants the move and Celtic do.
I don't think we've seen the last of Paddy, but I don't think we'll see him again soon.

He seems to want a crack at it down the road & I don't think we can blame him.

If his next move doesn't work out, I wouldn't be shocked to see him back with us.

On a slightly different note, the players you mention (plus numerous others) just underlines how ridiculous the idea is that Liverpool won't loan us Wilson because of Musonda's spell. If a player is good enough, he will come on leaps & bounds with us.

This gash is straight out the Hun playbook.
Nah we can’t blame him at all for wanting a crack at EPL! He had a great 2 and 1/2 seasons at Parkead! He’ll alwyas hold us in high regard.

Aye it’s incredible. Musonda couldn’t break in due to the quality. But it doesn’t mean Wilson won’t break in. Young players that come here come to a place where you have the pressure of winning and winning in style week after week. No hiding place. If your no up to your soon found out.

Folk bringing up roberts is pretty strange...he has categorically stated he sees himself away from scottish fitba.

Safe to say roberts is one guy who will not be with us next season.

Morgan is likely to be given match time, and I think he'll make the grade. That has to be factored into targets and player sales. If they're going to hit the ground running with quality that's fine, otherwise the back line has to be the focus of prep for the CL.

Celtic's hopes of landing Harry Wilson have taken a hit after Liverpool insisted any potential loan clubs will need to stump up serious cash if the kid doesn’t get a game.

The Hoops are hoping to land the 21-year-old Welsh wideman but are facing competition from up to 12 Championship sides, including Middlesbrough, Leeds, Norwich and Stoke, with Rangers also believed to be interested.

It’s understood the Anfield club are cool on sending the youngster north but Celts are also wary over demands the former Hull loan star starts matches - with a hefty bill if the targets are not met.

Wilson is set to be involved for the Reds in a friendly clash with Chester tomorrow with loan pathways and football partnerships manager Julian Ward expected to hold talks with boss Jurgen Klopp over the kid’s future next week.

Celtic won’t guarantee any player game time - as Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers proved last season as big-name arrival Charly Musonda struggled to make an impact.

The Chelsea youngster arrived with a huge reputation but was unable to settle and command a regular role in the side - unlike Patrick Roberts who was a key man during his time on loan from Man City until injury last term.

Rodgers is keen to strengthen in the attacking areas with Roberts returning down south and Stuart Armstrong making a £7million switch to Southampton.

He’s added Lewis Morgan and Jonny Hayes has battled back to fitness following a broken leg, while Ryan Christie has returned from his spell at Aberdeen.

Rodgers will not be rushed in to the market however, despite Celts’ Champions League qualifier against Alashkert coming up next week.

The Parkhead men will be without World Cup stars Dedryck Boyata and Mikael Lustig, while Cristian Gamboa has been given time off following his involvement in Russia with Costa Rica.

Rodgers wants defensive cover as well and is set to fight it out with Swansea and Hull to land Yeovil youngster Tom James.

The Premiership champs have been keeping tabs on the 22-year-old right-back for 12 months but the Championship outfits have already made contact with the Huish Park club.

Welsh youth cap James is heading in to the final year of his contract and the League Two men are looking to cash in.

Celtic – who have been linked with Wigan full-back Nathan Byrne – are also braced for a bid for Kieran Tierney from Everton with the Premier League big guns poised to launch a £25m move.

CELTIC’S hopes of landing Harry Wilson have suffered a huge blow — with Liverpool set to loan him in England.

Hoops gaffer Brendan Rodgers was keen to get winger Wilson on a 12-month deal.

But it’s understood Kop boss Jurgen Klopp would prefer Wilson remained in English football if he sanctions a loan.

Wilson, 21, excelled at Hull last term, and is now being chased by around 12 Championship teams.

Celts boss Rodgers was the man who brought Welsh ace Wilson into the first-team squad at Anfield.

Hull want Wilson back on loan, after his superb form blasted them clear of a relegation dogfight.

Norwich City and West Brom are among other clubs keen to land him.

Wilson, who was also a target for new Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, has a good relationship with Rodgers from his time at Anfield.

But Klopp will have the final say on the winger’s destination, as he weighs up what is best for the starlet’s career.

Wilson is expected to sign a new Liverpool contract shortly, and will also get the chance to impress in pre-season.

Klopp will then decide to either keep Wilson in his squad or farm him out — and the Championship seems the most likely destination.

Rodgers is chasing a new winger to replace Patrick Roberts, who has returned to Manchester City after two loan spells with the Hoops.

But Celts could now be forced to look elsewhere.

I get the feeling more and more that it matters little who occupies our back line. A Rodgers team will never be sound defensively, and it doesn’t matter what personnel you put there. Barcelona over the years have been shaky with supposedly world class defenders, due to their style of play that doesn’t protect a defence. And conversely, Celtic under Gordon Strachan did rather well defensively with McManus and Caldwell.

Maybe we just buy the best attacking talents and try to win 4-3 all the time. I think defence will be a problem under Rodgers regardless of who we sign.

Don't see why we have to concentrate on one part of the team or let one potential signing stop everything else in its tracks.

Sevco have signed enough players to fill a stand. They may be varying shades of scheidt but in terms of negotiations, medicals, and all the other logistics, they still have to go through the same rigmarole.

Good. We're at the stage with this team where developing players for other teams is simply pointless, especially if we're basically strong-armed into playing them at the expense of one of our own. We should sign him permananetly, or not at all. At the very least it'd have to be another try before you buy situation to make it remotely worthwhile.

IMO that is fair

You don't loan our your promising players to sit on the bench, you loan them out to get the first team football that they can't get with your team

Ciftci kind of loans, you do to get the player of your payroll (at least some of it), in that case it really don't matter if they play or not, you are just happy that you aren't playing (some) of their wages

Aye. If he's that good they should play him themselves. Hardly likely to bust a gut if he knows he'll get a game anyway. Only thing he'd develop is a bad attitude. Not sure Liverpool would come up with something like that but, if they did, nobody in their right minds would guarantee that. So he'll probably end up at Ibrox.

Guidetti's attitude problem and laziness cropped up again at his next club. Started great then stopped trying.

We dodged a bullet on that one.

As for Wilson, a few big clubs use the loan market as a business in an of itself. I don't think 'pay more if he doesn't play' clauses should be allowed.

Guidettis an arsehole. He’ll never be happy at any club he ends up at because he’ll always think he can do better.

Liverpool have been doing the charging more thing for years, when Andre Wisdom was on loan, it was 20k if he played, 40k if he didn’t play.

I agree.

Can't get a game for Liverpool so expect us to school him and pay for the privilege??

F**k off. If your good enough, stay and fight for your place at Anfield.
If you come to Celtic you'll have to prove your worth.
