I was at a work function the other night with a guy who claims to be best friends with one of the McGinn brothers. He insists Celtic have a 2.5million + Allan bid in for John.

If true seems very low bid although he is about to enter his last year of his contract.
Yer mate is spot on.
Ooft, any word on whether it’s been accepted or just lingering?
McGinn is in South America with Scotland. I'm guessing it won't progress until he returns.

£2.5m for a Scottish guy at Hibs in the last year of his contract seems a lot, but Hibs are exceptional price gougers. Wouldn't be surprised if they knocked it back.

Seems a lot for a player who'd be starting most games on the bench.

Yeah I’d have thought about half of that plus Allan would have sufficed but with it being us, and English clubs hovering around, it automatically drives the price up.

Signing mcginn is a no brainer. Can only imagine the people who dont rate him are the same that didnt rate mcgregor yet rated crosas. Weird.

If it's a no brainer, who does he replace then. Brown, Ntcham, McGregor or Armstrong? Plus we also have Kouassi and Bitton as back up to our back up.

Armers will be off. Rodgers doesn't seem to think Kouassi is ready yet, could see him going on loan.

eff it, I'm in. Get him signed.

....unless we're expecting a big bid for Ntcham this summer and looking at his replacement :ph43r:

Or alternatively with Armstrong possibly going, Bitton out the picture, McGregor being better employed wide or further forward and another long season ahead of us Rodgers just sees the need for a third option for the midfield engine room that lets him rest Broony & Ntcham a bit more often.

Let's face it, we've all been pleasantly surprised by Broony's "Man of Steel" routine the last couple of seasons....but we can't rely on 40+ games a season on him given his age and the treatment he gets from the opposition on a weekly basis. By his own admission he has "no ligaments left in his ankles" so I fear the punishment he gets will start to take a more serious toll in the next couple of seasons. :(

We might possibly see more games where Ntcham drops back in to Broony's midfield controller role while McGinn (or someone else) takes on the running/closing down/ball winning duties.

Isn't there a thing where you need a certain amount of scots guys for your CL squad? If SA goes, can see why he's going for McGinn

We'd only go back in with a £3.5m bid

No idea what the manager sees in McGinn but it's one of those where you just have to try and trust that he knows best I suppose. I've paid extra close attention to him since he's been linked strongly with us, and I just don't see it.

Personally I think he's a decent player and no better. I just don't see the wisdom in spending a fair few quid on a squad player who will not start barring injury.

Only now has Mcgregor started to believe he's a 1st team Celtic player.
McGinn would take a while too, as has Kouassi
By the time Broony needs regular rests, we'll be well covered.
It's our model, we can't afford to buy a ready made replacement for our captain.
I'd be very glad to have McGinn, especially if Armstrong leaves, rather have both mind you but its good progressive planning.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep

Armstrong is a squad player at the moment. If he goes, he needs replaced with someone who can run and give us that energy.

Is £2.5m really that much considering the money we have made over the past couple of seasons?

Look at the number of games we are playing now as well. Every carrot was moaning at Rodgers for no rotating the players more often. He probably didn't do that cos there are some squad players he can't trust.

McGinn is far from the finished article but we have all watched Rodgers develop players and take their game to another level. Maybe he thinks the potential is there to do the same with McGinn.

And he's a proper fenian. You can never have enough in the squad.
