Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Times change. If you actually read my post then you might be able to identify the points I'm making rather than just say "double treble, get yer head checked".

The double treble was an absolutely fantastic achievement, so lets not get complacent and think that the same bloated, midfield-heavy squad (minus Roberts & Armstrong, Lustig a year older, Boyata messing around on a new deal, possibly losing Tierney), can do the same again whilst also doing much better in Europe.

I really don't think my original post was very controversial as an assessment of the squad.

Your post wasn't, but to be fair to Brendan Rodger he inherited Ronny's squad already bloated by midfielders. He's said previously he wants two players for each position so that means we need to ship out around 4 of the current 14. I agree we do have too many but its not a simple equation. If Brendan Rodgers identifies an upgrade to the squad who's available he is not going to think I need to sell midfielder X to bring this new guy in, that's for someone else to manage I suppose.

I believe Benyu and Kouassi are seen more as development players or at least they were last season.

Hayes and Forrest were competition for Roberts its now between them for that slot
Sinclair and Morgan are competing for the position on the other side

that leaves

Brown
Ntcham
McGregor
Rogic
Bitton
Allan

For this season

Allan will be offski as part of a deal for McGinn, I'd say we need to keep Bitton around until the Defensive issues we've seen in the last season improves which I think is 11 total excluding Mikey Johnstone.

We just received serious cash for a young midfielder If we can spend that on one world class midfield player I wouldn't be too upset.

Your other point about load deals though, what else should Celtic do with those who are not getting game time but still taking a wage? these guys have contracts that woudl need to be paid up if terminated, if we can't sell them then loaning them out and getting something off their weekly wage is better than nothing. It also puts them in the shop window more than sitting in the stands does.

Brown, Ntcham, McGregor, Rogic, Kouassi (leaves one empty slot)

Bitton (I think) is considered as CB especially if we play with 3.
Allan is going
Benyu definitely development

Hayes, Sinclair and Morgan all play left so only Forrest on right.

It does depend a bit on formation as we might need wingbacks. Forrest can play WB but don't think Sinclair is disciplined enough.

I agree that Rodgers inherited Ronny's bloated squad but he's going into his third season and some of the deadwood are Rodgers signings. He signed Benyu, Eboue and Hayes. I'll go out on a limb and say none of them will make an impact at Celtic, so it isn't just Ronny's fault.

I don't know what the answer is to the loan deals question, I agree it is the only way but I just wish we'd try and punt these players rather than loan them out until their deals expire.

Edit: I know we do try and punt them. Maybe cut losses on some of them.

he did that before joining Hull in January - don't think that he will be in line for a new contract - but you'll never know

It's one loan I honestly don't see the point of. Surely wee Mikey Johnston deserves a shot? Played well on the right in Pre Season so far

Harry Wilson is a good player. But it’s just another Roberts scenario. A loan with no chance to buy. I would prefer us to sign someone for

I'd rather see up develop our own in regards to Harry Wilson after having Roberts & Musonda to varying degrees of success. Mikey Johnstone would be the one I'd like to see come in and take his chance rather than develop someone else's player.

A tough one.

What do you do if you get the chance of a Paddy for a couple of seasons on loan, but with no option to buy?

If the player is an exceptional talent, I think you have to take whatever arrangement you can get.

No idea if Wilson is this level though.

Would still rather we trawled Scandinavia or Eastern Europe for a young talent that can progress in our squad.

There's got to be some talent out there at less than too many millions. :ponder:
While I'm at it, what the f**k has Lee Congerton brought to the club so far???

He scored an apparently wonderful solo goal yesterday & sounded like MOTM:

The Bhoys made a bright start in the morning sunshine. Sinclair and Johnston both sent in dangerous deliveries from either flank with no takers, before Johnston registered the first shot on target in the 10th minute, but his effort was straight at goalkeeper Ammar Helac.
The Hoops soon resumed the offensive, however, and Christie’s angled effort was inches wide after he’d been played in by Johnston.
And it was Johnston who broke the deadlock just after the half-hour mark with a fine solo effort. Collecting a pass from Allan in the inside-left channel, the young winger showed excellent footwork and composure to drift past several challenges before coolly picking his spot.
The lively Johnston threatened for the Hoops early in the second half after accelerating into the box but Helac was down quickly to smother his strike.
The lively Johnston threatened for the Hoops early in the second half after accelerating into the box but Helac was down quickly to smother his strike.
In the 65th minute, the Celts doubled their advantage. Johnston was the instigator, showing good strength to win a physical tussle near the edge of the box and then pick out the run of Griffiths. Bearing down on goal, the striker unselfishly rolled the ball across for Sinclair, who took a touch before finding the net.
The Bhoys were now firmly in control of the contest and Sinclair had the ball in the net again following a surging run from Johnston but the offside flag cut short the celebrations – despite the winger looking onside when Griffiths sent the ball into his path.

CELTIC (4-2-3-1) Bain; Ralston, Welsh, Compper, Miller; Kouassi, Allan; Johnston, Christie, Sinclair; Griffiths.
Not Used: Doohan, Hendry, Henderson McInroy,

I guess he's doing all that he can, if he continues to play like that, shame it was behind closed doors without cameras.
