The capital club feel McGinn is worth a lot more than £1.5m, especially after Stuart Armstrong’s £7m move to Southampton.

There is absolutely no link between McGinn's value and Armstrong's.
You don't think it's sensible to benchmark against the market?
If we were an EPL club maybe

We've got cash to burn from their perspective.

One of the many problems if the Tierney deal goes through is that clubs will know we’re absolutely loaded (even more so than usual) and any player we go to sign will have his price bumped right up. Hibs will be well aware that if we want McGinn badly enough, we could give them £3 million tomorrow without batting an eyelid.

That's not the market then.

The market dictates how much people will pay for a Kia. It doesn't double or triple in price because someone is wearing nice shoes.

They already know we are loaded, which is why they are wanting more for McGinn. I don't blame them, but it doesn't mean just because we are good at our transfer dealings, that we should give them more for a player than what he's worth.

John McGinn is effing pish. We are about too have 25mil and have 7million from Armstrong and we are buying a player worse than any of our midfielders, in what should be his prime. His prime is would be our 5th best centre mid. Whilst we still have a shocking defence.

I would probably go to £2.5m with McGinn. If Hibs won't play ball - wait until January and sign him on a pre contract and make sure he knows that is the case.

But the price of a cheaper house will still be related to the price of a more expensive one. Of course if you're going to sell a Scottish midfielder with particular credentials you're going to compare it to a deal that's been done previously, even if some of the details are different.

Not every market is selling / buying Kias and can definitely be contingent on the financial capability of your potential customers.

Mcginn would be behind brown ntcham rogic and mcgregor, however, If brown is injured/rested id have mcginn in ahead of them.

Mcginn will wait for celtic and hibs know it.

Not double or triple.

McGinn has a value. He has never played at a club our size, never played nor scored in the CL. Lots of players with his experience have failed at Celtic.

Southampton went for Armstrong because he's a better bet than someone from McGinns background. We went in with a bid of 1.5 mill apparently and while that's probably a low ball offer, if they don't accept 2.5 I'd rather we went in another direction. Hibs will not get the 4-5 mill they're rumored to be after.

We already had a healthy bank balance before selling Armstrong.

2 different players at different stages of their career with a vast difference in their achievements.

And values in this market.

No one in the EPL wants to buy McGinn.

Our spending 2-3 mill is the equivalent of 6 or 7 in that league. It's all relative. Hibs are chancing it.

Roberts, Armstrong and Tierney out. Rodgers/Congerton with a massive transfer budget to rebuild us.

What could go wrong?

We could - but we play our most important games of the season over the next eight weeks.
