We're in a bit of a virtuous circle with transfers at the moment.....We get a windfall from Virgil to Liverpool, which effectively covers the French Eddy layout with change.....we pocket five million guaranteed (with addons possible) from Armstrong and throw £3 million at Hibs for McGinn.....if Man City decide to sell Roberts to Leicester as part of the Mahrez deal, all he needs to negotiate is a relegation release cause and he can come back home next year for free! :rocker:

Not that I was panicking but an internet rumour of a bid for John McGinn maybe isn't going to convince those who are worried.

...and may actually anger them that this signals the continuation of sloppy scouting. It's not I don't think the guy is ok, there are deficiencies elsewhere that are urgent, and ok is not ok for CL qualification. If buying a replacement for Brown make it quality. Just another waste of money and lack of imagination.

I dont want McGinn. He wont improve us so whats the point in signing him unless its to sell him for a profit next year. He isn't good enough to get into our team , which should really be the end of the matter.

It's about having a squad and he has plenty development in him. . .it's what we do, we done it with Armstrong.

The squad is big enough, its quality we need. The last thing we need is more players that fill a bench.

This thing about McGinn not being good enough to play for us is nonsense. He's the only centre mid in Scotland over the last couple of years who consistently gets to grips with Brown, we've all seen that on more than one occassion. And you can hear it in the way Brown talks about him. He singled him out in his recent Celtic TV interview and he's done similar in the past.

Brown's just turned 33 and is unlikely to have any more than 1 season left at his current level of performance. McGinn is 10 years younger and the obvious choice to come in and deputise for a while before stepping into his shoes. He's going to be a Scotland regular for the forseeable future and he's going relatively cheap. And Rodgers obviously rates him, even the rumours about us not doing the deal have been predicated on the fact that we've been after him.

Signing McGinn makes no sense to me. He will not be a first pick at this point, plays in an area where we already have too many players and is reportedly costing £3m.

Give him another season of games in the top flight with Hibs, and if he continues to develop sign him on a pre-contract in January.

Use that £3m towards a player in a position that will definitely strengthen us.
Agree entirely
McGinn staying at Hibs is very unlikley. Hibs can't afford to let him go with no fee and McGinn himself won't gamble on missing out on his big move. He has already watched his brother's career curtailed by injury when it looked like he would be moving up a level. He is on a very low wage so it wouldn't be fair to expect him to take that risk.

He knows Celtic have put in a bid and that likley won't be accepted by Hibs before the English transfer window closes. After that Hibs in reality will have no choice but to accept the lower bid especially as they will be despereate to get Scott Allan back. McGinn just has to decide on whether to hold off or take more money (earlier) down south.

If any other clubs are reported as interested in Allan (genuine or not) then Hibs may blink first.

Celtic are in a very strong position. Hibs' problem is that McGinn is a Celtic supporter. Having said that, I'm not convinced he won't decide to take the more lucrative offers that will come in from the English Championship.

One thing we can say is that he will "never" be going to sevco.

PL said in the interview he gave to the podcasters that the transfer business was going to happen deep in the window.

No panic but not keen.
