Would hate to see Tierney leave but I don't understand the sniffy attitude towards Everton. It is pretty tiresome to see Man City, Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal being considered the only worthwhile teams in England. City, and Chelsea in particular have been nothing special (occasionally getting relegated) for most of their history. It would be nice for another club to challenge and it would be nice to think that players like KT are kickstarting a revival in a club like Everton.

We can sniff at Southampton but not Everton.

Would rather he stayed at Celtic though.

Folk are being sniffy because other folk seem to think the first club down south to make eyes at our player will see the player disappear over the horizon. In reality Everton are at best mid table also rans in that league down there. At worst relegation threatened.

Everton are a club with pedigree, but they have shown no inclination to challenge for the title since the 80s. They were a bigger club than Liverpool at one point, and while Liverpool haven't won the league for a long time, they have definitely been trying to do so. And picking up the odd European trophy along the way. Everton shouldn't really be so far apart from Liverpool in terms of ambition, but they are.

I got stick yesterday for suggesting a reality check and that Tierney was likely to leave within a couple of years. Even I’m surprised at what has developed overnight.
However another reality check is necessary. People need to get real about a fee for Tierney. There is no way we are getting in excess of £30million. We will do well to get the £20m plus reportedly offered by Everton (even then I suspect a good chunnk will be add ons).

It’s sore but it’s modern football. Tierney may well love the club but he will go sooner rather than later and there is nothing Celtic can do about that other than get the best fee possible.

As I said yesterday Tierney didn’t join a big London agency just to get a pay rise from Celtic.
Celtic shouldn't entertain anything less than 30. It should be the starting point regardless of add-ons.
Correct. When you see the prices paid down south for utter shampooe 30m for one of the best full backs in Britain is the starting point.

We’ve just sold Armstrong for £7m, and could be bringing in serious money for Dembele, Boyata and KT. Even Jozo could fetch £5m if the rumours are to be believed. Not all of this cash would be up front I would imagine, but a huge chunk of it will be. We already have CL millions in the bank from last season.

Down side of course is the decimation of the squad. Players not easy to replace and other areas of the team that clearly needed improved.

God forbid we sell KT and Dembele, but we won’t refuse mental money for them.

I’d hope Brendan has all the scenarios covered and players are coming in. No point in having millions in the bank and a useless team on the park. Not much time before the season starts.

If KT signs for Everton I'll eat my c*ck on a store roll. He's better than them at this stage of his career

If we sold Dembele and KT now, based on figures bandied about (20m for Dembele from Brighton and 25m for KT) then there's a good chance that we'd be losing 40m CL money.

Not very good business.

That would gut a double treble winning side when combined with the Armstrong and Roberts departures.

Not happening.

Aye, probably about £5m less in jersey sales, then we'd need to buy a couple of replacements.

Selling key players is generally a false economy and shouldn’t be entertained unless the player is desperate to leave or within a year of his contract expiring.

Possible that we have stalled on McGinn cos of Allan’s performance in pre season

Pushing price up for Allan. He’s a good player (not good enough for us) and if he is going as part of deal Celtic will be looking for more than we spent on him likely.

Allan probably isn’t the worst squad replacement for Armstrong if we’re to assume that Brown and Ntcham are going to be first choice again - and given we also have Bitton, Eboue and McGregor. There are areas outwith central midfield which need strengthening first. I assume he must have had a good spell at Hibs if Lennon wants him back again.

Neither is McGinn, so at least this way we've saved ourselves £3m.
