It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas (in Oz). Brendan speaking about replacing Armstrong and Paddy. Patience is such a tough virtue.
Any quotes?

ki signing for newcastle apparently As good a player as he is, I don’t think he’s mobile enough to play in our team.

As good a player as he is, I don’t think he’s mobile enough to play in our team. Tend to agree, certainly not as mobile and dynamic as the likes of Armstrong, better passer of the ball though.

Interesting to see who we bring in if our sights are set higher than McGinn.
Edit: In Brendans own words ""We lost Stuart Armstrong and Patrick Roberts who were really influential players for us in all the years I have been here. We need to at least replace that and if we can also add to the squad." Haven't seen many midfield or winger links

Yes, it leaves such a small field. Well it seemed to be the obvious choice considering whoever we sign is likely going to be backup to Ntcham. Brendan's comment make it sound like he's after a ready Armstrong replacement rather than a project, which would really surprise me.

McGinn to Sunderland is the word on the street.
He'll disappear down there, and that'll mean we don't need to hear about him every transfer window for the next ten years.

Telegraph's Merseyside correspondent has put his name to this Tierney to Everton story. If that means anything. Probably not.
Spoiler: click to toggle Everton are preparing to bid £25 million for Celtic’s highly-rated left back Kieran Tierney. New manager Marco Silva and director of football Marcel Brands are looking to rebuild the squad over the pre-season, and Tierney is a prime target. Silva wants a long-term successor to Leighton Baines, and the versatile Scot has proved himself capable in both full-back roles. For his country he has played right back recently as he fights for his favoured position with Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson. The 21-year-old has also excelled at centre-back for his club. Tierney is a prized asset for the Scottish champions, who have become accustomed to Premier League interest in the youngster since he made his breakthrough. He has been the Scottish Premier League’s Young Player of the Year for the last three seasons, and was given the Celtic captaincy on occasion over the last 12 months. He has also been tipped for international captaincy recently. It would be a coup if Everton could convince the player to make the move to Goodison Park, or agree terms with Celtic. Brendan Rodgers will be desperate to keep his side together, not only to match the domestic treble feats of successive campaigns, but to make more of a mark in the Champions League. Silva knows Everton’s squad needs a major revamp, despite the significant spending of a year ago. He must not only inject younger, pacier players but also offload the ageing stars he does not see as part of the future. That may be easier said than done given some significant salaries, despite the high profile exit of Wayne Rooney to Major League Soccer earlier this week. Everton are overloaded with players past their prime, and the imbalance was fatal to both Ronald Koeman and Sam Allardyce during the course of last season, facilitating another era of change at Goodison. Tierney is the prototype target of the new management team – a young and exciting player who may be tempted by the challenge of the English Premier League. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/06/29/everton-poised-make-25m-bid-celtic-full-back-kieran-tierney/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

BR quotes re transfers -
"We know we need to strengthen.
"We lost Stuart Armstrong and Patrick Roberts who were really influential players for us in all the years I have been here. We need to at least replace that and if we can also add to the squad.
"There is always speculation and rumour around players coming here or players leaving the club.
"You just have to stay concentrated, that will be a club decision in the end whatever happens."

BRENDAN RODGERS would be gutted to see Kieran Tierney leave. But the Celtic manager claims it would be morally wrong for him to block a move to Everton. SunSport revealed the Premier League side are about to launch a £25million bid for the Hoops’ prized asset. With wages of £60,000 a week on the table, it would be a life-changing deal for the Celtic full-back. Rodgers desperately wants to keep Tierney, but cited John Kennedy’s career-ending injury as a reason for considering the move. He said: “That is always going to be the difficult one for Kieran because he genuinely is Celtic-daft. “You see his passion and love, but football is a harsh business. It’s a business where the career is very, very short and if he can go and earn four or five times the money he’s on at Celtic, who am I to say not to do it? “You look at John Kennedy. An absolute star in the making, playing in a really good team at a young age. “In his first international game he gets his leg shattered. That’s his football life done. “He tried his socks off to get back, but his career was done. That’s the other side of it. “I want to develop Kieran the best I possibly can with the coaches and make him the best he can be. But there’s a moral side to it as well. How can you deny a boy that? “I’ll always give him advice, but, ultimately it will then be down to him and the club. “There’s no question he’s a really hungry player who will get better and better. “To stay at Celtic would be brilliant for him and he will improve again. “But I can’t deny if he’s playing at that level week in and week out that wouldn’t improve him also. “I’ve worked in the Premier League. I know the development he could have there. “The most important thing is he loves it at Celtic, he’s contributing at a high level. He’s judged on a standard at Celtic which is very, very high and he’s coping with that. “But until something concrete comes in, I don’t have to think about.” Celtic begin their Champions League qualifying campaign against Alashkert on July 10. The exit of Tierney would be a hammer blow, but Rodgers admits the Hoops could cash in if the price is right. He said: “It will be down to the club in the end. “If an astronomical fee comes in for a player and he has wages to match that, the transfer window can dictate he may have to go. Of course, we would love to keep our players for the qualification phase and get right through it. “But I can never say everyone will definitely stay. The club may get an offer they can’t refuse.” Stuart Armstrong and Patrick Roberts have also departed this summer, leaving a big void in Rodgers’ squad. His focus is on replacing those two with quality. Odsonne Edouard and Lewis Morgan have arrived, but Rodgers wants more. Yet he says Celtic’s transfer model makes it tough to take his side to that next level. He said: “It’s quality I’m after. We are not a team that needs recycling. I just want to sprinkle it with quality, “I’m very happy with the players we have, but I also know that when you are doing really well, you need to strengthen. “We’ve lost Stuart and Patrick. They were very influential for us. So we need to replace them before we can think about adding to the squad. “With the players that are here, there’s a lot of room for development. But you always want to bring in players that can keep us moving forward hopefully. “We always want to add competition. That’s important. But it’s not easy because we don’t have the funds. “If we are losing a player for say £20m, we’ve got to replace him. It’s not easy. “We’ve got boys like Tom Rogic who are fantastic talents. To bring in guys who are better costs money. “That’s the difficult thing for us. For someone to come in over Callum McGregor, that would cost a lot of money. “That doesn’t mean we can’t improve. My job is to maximise and invest coaching into the talents we have and make them the best we possibly can. “Like we’ve seen with Stuart Armstrong, at times that means you’ll end up losing players. “So it’s catch-22 really. The market now gets away from you each year, especially the market we are in.” Asked whether Celtic could tweak their transfer model to get better quality, Rodgers replied: “That’ll be the club that will decide that.” The Hoops boss also confirmed he’s in talks with Moses Odubajo as he weighs up a move for the former Hull City right-back. He said: “There is nothing new. “We had him over for a chat and to see where he’s at physically. That’ll be an ongoing process and then we will see if it’s something we want to do.” https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/rodgers

BRENDAN RODGERS reckons tying up Dedryck Boyata on a new deal would save Celtic millions. The Belgian defender’s contract talks are on hold while he plays at the World Cup, with Lazio keeping tabs on him in Russia. Boyata only has 12 months left on his deal and Celts boss Rodgers hopes Hoops chiefs can sort out an extension. He said: “People have been crying about the need for a centre-half, but we had a boy playing for Belgium against England who was top class. “He was quick, strong, powerful, aggressive, confident and can play. “He’s played three 90 minutes out there and won all three games. That shows how good he is. “He has everything needed to be a top-class centre-half. “Whatever the thoughts were on Dedryck before the World Cup, he’s added real value. “People will sit up and take notice of his performances. “When he’s concentrated, he’s a top-class centre-half and he’s at a good age. We would love to keep him.” Rodgers insists he wouldn’t leave Boyata out if his contract situation rumbles on during the Champions League qualifiers. He said: “I work with the players. It’s not always the player, it’s always the player and the club. “Of course, players naturally will have a think. Tom Rogic signed his contract, Dedryck didn’t. “But it didn’t change the relationship. “If he’s training and working with Celtic, I want him to be the best he can for Celtic. “Hopefully he’ll get something organised with the club because he’d be a brilliant player to re-sign.” https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/dedryk-boyata
