I was at a work function the other night with a guy who claims to be best friends with one of the McGinn brothers. He insists Celtic have a 2.5million + Allan bid in for John.

If true seems very low bid although he is about to enter his last year of his contract.
1.5 million too much

If we must sign McGinn, which seems likely, and he costs us the same as what we make from selling Sviatchenko and moving on a player who's not going to make it with us, then I suppose that's about as good a bit of business as we can do there.

eff off with this McClean chat
This
The huns are going to be right up for it next season. The more proper fenians in our squad, the better.
Because the huns might have more fenians in their starting 11 than we do?

It still leaves us a defender short* and yet another midfielder, to add to the extensive list of midfielders vying for 2 positions.

*Granted we need another first team CB, already but after the injury crisis at the back last year, I'd rather we kept him around for the qualifiers, if we don't have a replacement lined up.

If Compper and Jozo stay, as expected, and Boyata signs on again, we won't be signing any centre backs. Jonah Hendry kicking about as well.

Backup left back and someone to take over from Lustig are more likely.

Mickey mouse defenders. They have proved they are not good enough to do what's expected of them.

It's were we build our game from and teams have got wise to it. Upgrades should be the priority in that area.

Armstrong is likely away, so it leaves us in the same position for midfielders if he does go.

Erik is also away, and Hendry is the back up (hopefully)

I don't think we should sign McGinn, but if we're going to then this way makes the most sense to me.

If Moussa is for the off, this Arp boy might look at the progress he’s made and how Odsonne is becoming a hero and want some of it. Unlikely but you never know

Arp has great potential but is still very young(17!) and he would only be our third choice striker even if Moussa goes imo.
Dont think it would make sense for both us and him.

if you have teams in scotland standing off and allowing boyata the ball its nonsensical to go into europe with him

ajer i don't get the clamor for him but he's young and may develop so maybe one there

jozo is likely to pull one when going gets tough so no chance

hendry is nowhere near the mark

so that leaves the mystery man compper and whether he's going back or not

bottom line we need a central defender for europe

put it this way mcmanus and caldwell would get in ahead of all of above

Think we need a wide player who has a trick or two after losing Paddy and Charley.

Not it a Rodgers team they wouldn't.

He'd play McGregor at centre half before he'd give a game to "old school" defenders like Hoof & Heid

Caldwell may not have been the libero he wanted to be but he was a ball playing CB, not the old fashioned defender Mick was. Gordon rightly decided McManus and Balde couldn't work and relied on Telfer and Caldwell for ball to feet. Naylor and McManus somehow got by.
