We won the treble and thats great. Rodgers performance is not in question here.

The idea that he can turn water into wine is, saying the likes of McGinn should not be questioned because BR is here is mince. We heard it all before with Hayes & Hendry.

Rodgers may be an excellent coach but he still needs proper players of good natural ability to work with if we are going to continue to progress

One of the old lads I work with who has been right about a few things over the years, although he has been wrong more often, has said we are in for Jack Harrison and some Belgian winger that plays in Spain. Can't see anything online about it though

He's probably talking poo then. Only passing it on as he was right about Ntcham and Boyata before

Jack Harrison was rumoured before for us, before City took him.
Pops up consistently during transfer windows.

No smoke without fire, or made up pish?
Could believe either, what with our links to City. A loan to buy job, or straight in there like NtCham…
Both would work & I think I'd be pretty happy with that.
He's never lived up to his early potential, but that's the waters we fish in.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
I think it’s more that they could probably get more by selling him to a championship club.

He isn’t likely to walk in to our first team, and would probably be a squad player for the first season.

Also, Hibs might think that he could develop more at Celtic and get them a bigger sell on percentage if he moves again, than if they just accepted a million or two more and went to Derby or a Nottingham Forest.

I assume Lenny will have discussed what is best for Hibs already.
Possibly because if Celtic did want him, that's who McGinn would want to go to, so they either negotiate a deal or end up having a player who might sit it out for Celtic to come back in in 6 months.
Is it not just that they want Scott Allan as part of the deal, hence the price would be different for Celtic from other clubs?

He never mentioned if it was a loan or permanent. I only mentioned it because he has been right about signing players from City before. He has said we were signing Paddy permanently last year so take it with a pinch of salt

Bakkali would fit the bill. Very highly rated, PSV cashed in straight away, didn't set the heather alight, and been sent out on loan.

This McGinn chat is boring now. Fact is, Armstrong came from Dundee United with about the same hype and potential talent as McGinn would come from Hibs. He had a couple of good seasons and now we've gone and sold him from anywhere between £7-10m. Give the guy a bloody chance before you bury him.

Plus, I seriously doubt that's the only transfer we're working on in the close season. I don't know if it's panic or sheer stupidity in this thread any more.
I think mcginn a better prospect than I took Armstrong for when we signed him. Armstrong's ten times the player now than when he arrived imo.

Pretty open minded re McGinn, either way I am happy to trust the judgement of BR re players who will fit into his plans. Do not see him as the type of manager who will sign anyone unless he thought he would do a job for us.

quite understand the attitude of some posters to McGinn , although I think he will do a job for us.

I seem to recall many saying similar things about Griffiths when we signed him....

Do any managers (outwith those at mega rich clubs who just stockpile players to be loaned out) do this?

Rodgers is a brilliant coach, excellent at improving players. His transfer record is inconsistent.

Lennon was back home in Lurgan on Friday evening and apparently all but confirmed that McGinn would be a Celtic player this summer. Might be rubbish, might not.

I think people underestimate the importance of players' ages when discussing their abiity.

Part of the reason Armstrong is "twice the player" now compared to when he joined is that he was 22/23 when he joined and he's 26 now. In fact, you can go through half our current team and the same applies. Griffiths, Rogic and McGregor especially are vastly superior players in their mid-20's compared to how they were at 22/23. The same can be said to some extent about Brown, Forrest, Biton and Boyata. If a player is young enough to improve and he's given the right coaching and opportunities, he usually will do.

McGinn is 23, he's coming into the prime years for a central midfielder. All things being equal he'll keep getting better for the next couple of years.

We've been linked with Harrison and Bakkali in the past, so maybe something there. Person i know who follows MLS was really high on harrison before his move to man city...

I actually think Ashley williams could possibly be a good signing

Agreed on the first two, not so sure about Williams these days.

If the past is anything to go by, the quality we're linked with is quality a step or two above the quality we eventually sign.

McGinn is the kind of signing Ronny was lamented for, its a lazy easy option to replace Armstrong. Does he improve us domestically meh, does he improve us in europe, certainly not. As a squad player its an ok signing nothing more nothing less.
Did Armstrong improve us in Europe?

Same was said for Griffiths as well before we signed him. Let's just see how the boy does if he gets here.
