Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
We wouldn’t be able to play McGregor, Edouard or Sinclair as a WB. Johnny Hayes possibly but don’t think he’s the answer either.

We’d get away with it in domestic games, not in Europe.

Cover at LB is essential
Decent/adequate lb cover might be hard to get. Not many players are going to sit on the bench waiting on \Tierney to get injured.
I do think this is true. Very few players are going to be happy sitting on the bench. Probably no one we can afford will think they could be selected ahead of KT. In these cases teams often go with cover from wide player who could play LB (ala Hayes) or CB who play LB (Comppter?).

New Everton boss Marco Silva could get rid of four Everton players - France midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, 28, Congo winger Yannick Bolasie, 29, Wales defender Ashley Williams, 33, and former England striker Wayne Rooney, 32. (Star)

I reckon BR will make a move for Williams....
His move to Everton has been an absolute disaster.

32 & is probably on something daft like 70 grand a week.

A couple of reasons why I doubt he will.
Brendans mate though

I'm still hoping Compper comes good tbh
He surely has to get a chance?

Will go down as one of our most puzzling signings if Brendan ignores him next season.

Hopefully, we’d sign someone who has the confidence to challenge KT for his spot.

McGinn is the kind of signing Ronny was lamented for, its a lazy easy option to replace Armstrong. Does he improve us domestically meh, does he improve us in europe, certainly not. As a squad player its an ok signing nothing more nothing less.

Take it you haven’t read “Downfall’ then ?
He wrote that after the event? It wasn't some bold prediction of how things would unfold?

McGinn will do well for us.

It'll be nice to look back on this thread.
I hope he does but I don’t rate him at all. Where does he play in our midfield?
Well according one esteemed pundit  , he is better than Ntcham, so likely 4.5m Ntcham will be worming our bench for the foreseeable.....

There were games last season in between Europe for example where we rested brown and our midfield lacked drive. McGinn would be oerfect for such times and allow us to manage Brown (who is 33 today) over next couple of seasons.

Dont think McGinn is what we need, dont see him improving to a level where he starts or contributes. Dont see what you guys rate in him.
McGinn was a stand out at both games I saw at Celtic park last season.
He was involved in everything positive about Hibs and scored the crucial
goals for them.
I see him as long term, and under proper guidance through Brendan and his backroom staff,
he would be a solid addition to the squad.

I totally agree. He's doing very well at hibs and would develop further under BR.
£3.5m sounds ok to me for one of the most promising talents in the country.
I guess I qualify my opinion to the extent that I assume that BR believes he can bring his game on from where it is atm. If BR believes that he can significantly develop McGinn then £3.5m is a bargain.

Surely, Lennon doesn’t dictate that we get a discount if we sign him?

I think it’s more that they could probably get more by selling him to a championship club.

He isn’t likely to walk in to our first team, and would probably be a squad player for the first season.

Also, Hibs might think that he could develop more at Celtic and get them a bigger sell on percentage if he moves again, than if they just accepted a million or two more and went to Derby or a Nottingham Forest.

I assume Lenny will have discussed what is best for Hibs already.
Possibly because if Celtic did want him, that's who McGinn would want to go to, so they either negotiate a deal or end up having a player who might sit it out for Celtic to come back in in 6 months.

I think this is why he is being bought. From a pure footballing talent point of view, Brown may struggle to get into our midfield. But he's the most important player in our squad thanks to his leadership and drive. That's a tough thing to replace, and Rodgers may see McGinn as being able to offer that in the long term.

I'm not sure if it's the right signing, but I think that's why we're interested.

Ntcham and Dembele were the only BR signings who started in the Scottish cup final, the rest were RD/Lenny recruits.
Broony was of course signed by WGS.
BR hasn't had to overhaul the squad that RD left behind over 2 years ago. I don't see how being a 'ronny signing' can be a pejorative term.

The whole "BR will work his magic" stuff, regardless of who it is we are linked with, is still being touted by folk on here

That might have been valid while we were witnessing the invincibles season but not after last. He is clearly as mortal as the rest of us.

This McGinn chat is boring now. Fact is, Armstrong came from Dundee United with about the same hype and potential talent as McGinn would come from Hibs. He had a couple of good seasons and now we've gone and sold him from anywhere between £7-10m. Give the guy a bloody chance before you bury him.

Plus, I seriously doubt that's the only transfer we're working on in the close season. I don't know if it's panic or sheer stupidity in this thread any more.

One of the old lads I work with who has been right about a few things over the years, although he has been wrong more often, has said we are in for Jack Harrison and some Belgian winger that plays in Spain. Can't see anything online about it though
