Dont think McGinn is what we need, dont see him improving to a level where he starts or contributes. Dont see what you guys rate in him.

It'll be nice to look back on this thread.
Domestically, he’ll be fine.

We need players to help us compete in Europe. John McGinn doesn’t fit that profile.
We have Brown, Ntcham, Rogic and McGregor for Europe. Kouassi has shown he can do it as well. McGinn at worst will be a reliable rotation option for domestic football.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
How do you know when he hasn't had the chance yet?
He’s not looked great at International level and the CL is an even bigger step up.

We need players who aren’t careless with the ball- like Ntcham- if we’re going to keep progressing at that level. What age is McGinn 25? May be a slow learner

Not for me
He’s 23

Personally I think he's strong as an ox, has a great engine from box to box, he'll have a great desire to win in a Celtic shirt and can play a bit.

It takes all sorts to build a team and he'll provide that.

I reckon McGinn would be a good addition. Not in the loop so don't know if it's a go'er, but I wouldn't be averse to him being in the squad.

Would be a solid replacement for Armstrong.

After back to back trebles, the main area we should be focusing on improving is in Europe. Specifically, we need players who can make us more competitive and help prevent the heavy defeats we’ve seen too frequently. Most of the signings we’ve made over the past 12 months have done nothing to help on that front. I suspect McGinn will also fall into that category.

Pretty sure McGinn is on his way. The debate reminds me very much of when Broony came. I remember all the wise men like me saying we had signed the wrong player, Thomson was the class act etc. McGinn would seem to have quite a lot of the desire, drive and other attributes of a young Broony (though nowhere near as wild!)

Exactly, a team is made up of many attributes. You don't build a team/squad by filling it full of ball players.

McGinn will do well for us.

I must admit to being a bit baffled to the hostility shown towards the idea of John McGinn signing for us too.

I we only sign John McGinn this summer, I'll be pissed off.

If we sign him, a quality centre back, right back and winger to replace Paddy, I'll be overjoyed.

People are asking where he fits into our team, well if we want to extend Broony's career and have him playing until he's past 35, we need to reduce the number of games he plays a season, keep him fresh for Europe, cup finals and huns games.

That way if John McGinn gets around 15 starts and a few more off the bench, we can see what we've bought. If he does well, then we can rely on him a bit more for the future.

If we get him for around £2m I'd be ok with that. At least we know what we're getting - a player one year older than Broony when he signed who can improve with better coaching and better players around him. Broony certainly did and he's on record as saying that McGinn is his greatest competitor in the league.

Considering we've previously spunked £2-£3m on exotic sounding nonentities like Amido Baldé, Puuki and Boeriggter, this doesn't seem like a huge gamble for the sake of £2m.

I believe we should also be looking to sign the best Scottish talent out there if they are available. John McGinn was the best midfielder outside of Celtic this season, and he should. to be considered our greatest hope, but based on performances last season, he's an upgrade on Armstrong.

This isn't a massive risk in my book.

That’s fine and we’ll if all the rest remain injury and suspension free.

Doesn’t often work like that.

I think the thing with McGinn is that we need quality to come in and try and take us on another level in the CL - We have been told that is the aim albeit I think Brendan has now had a " Fergus" reality check as to how difficult that is - McGinn as things stand isn't going to do that.

Brendan is also building for the future and McGinn may work there if he kicked on a good bit but for me there are a lot of aspects of his game need improved - Maybe Rodgers can do that I don't know.

If he comes to Celtic he will be booked regularly much more so than at Hibs.

All absolutely true, but I think at £2m he's worth a serious look.

Either that or no one has came in for him.

I think he'll be part of the McGinn deal.

Either way Scott Allan should be :Bye:

Not needed and not good enough.

No doubt somebody will say he had a few good games for Hibs still nowhere near the level we need in a Celtic player.

The sooner we sign John mcginn the sooner we can talk about someone else..
And for the record, I think he would be a good signing for us.
I do agree with the other posters 're, right back, left back, right winger, left winger, centre half, but I cannot see that all happening.
The more I think of it the less convinced I am that we will sign first team players for any of those positions..
A centre half maybe , if we sell one of ours...
I think that our proper first eleven at the start of the season will be players in our squad right now..
I would guess that we may get two or three prospects tho...
