Celtic are to take part in a pre-season competition involving French giants Marseille and Premier League Southampton ahead of the new Scottish season.

The Hoops will head to South Shields for the tournament between Friday, July 27, and Sunday, July 29, with the host club completing the field.

Likely to be an U23 side featuring in this I'd imagine.
Said on local radio today it was the U23's.
Nice wee ground at South Shields as well

Looks like a behind closed doors training game against BW Linz - looking at their schedule possibly on 3rd July. Same team Celtic played in Rohrbach last year: certainly disappointing news if no fans are allowed.

Closed to the public "at the express request of Celtic trainer Brendan Rodgers". I wonder why?

Seems to have gone quiet on this. Which is a pity, the Brussels CSC have made a few trips to the Union ground, and a few of the Union fans are regulars at the Brussels CSC. Would have been a fantastic, if hazy, day out.

There were rumours on twitter of a friendly v Athletic Bilbao in Spain, most likely nonsense though, unfortunately.

I wondered about that part too. I thought it was more likely the organising of ticketing, stewards and police at relatively short notice meant it was easier to play behind closed doors. I really don't understand why the tour last year was arranged and announced just after the cup final in mid-May, and this year a month later it still isn't fully confirmed and communicated.

Still hoping there might be a way to watch the game against BW Linz with my son despite the closed doors communication. The family carnival atmosphere and public park nature of the game last year against BW Linz was fantastic - even my wife who doesn't like football enjoyed it.

When are the team back in pre-season training. I would guess its next monday, which is a very short turn over, particularly for the likes of Hendry and Christie who were just getting back from Mexico last week.

Wouldn't have minded Sunderland again this pre season to see how our future manager's shaping them up.

seems strange but busy schedule with friendlies, CL Qualifying, travel plans, existing players joining back up with squad after World Cup breaks & new players/signings joining up with squad from 1st July

its going to be the last game in Austria (due in Dublin on the 7th) & with all that going on maybe there's a chance the game might be cancelled/not happen and its better to make sure people don't plan to travel to it just in case they get let down

still waiting for a game the weekend before (29/6 - 1/7) though

The Bohemians game sounds great - the Huber arena is at Wels FC - a small regional league team. They have one pretty new stand and grass on 3 sides apart from that.....I know it as my son played a tournament there last year. It would be a good place to watch a game and get very close to the action.

Not sure about the second fixture on 3 July and where that could be. Any more details ?
