Good idea to play Tierney at centre half. He's getting bigger all the time. Didn't Ajax have players moving position so that their total football would function well? He's played there for Scotland and also at right back. Midfielders and forwards are often changing role so no reason why someone like Tierney shouldn't. Never know, he might be an even better centre half than left back.
Yes Ned, I think he will be our center half sooner rather than later.
A pacy centre half who can pass the ball. Brave, strong... can he learn the position quickly? I reckon it's worth trying anyway and always good to have a fall back option even if it doesn't become a permanent move.
Might explain the LB rumours that surface

He’ll continue to blossom at left back and we would lose a big threat going forward if he was played at centre half. That area of the team needs strengthened but hopefully not at the expense of moving one of the best left backs in the game out of his best position.

Tierney is an ideal modern full back, but the weakest area of his game is his aerial ability. It makes playing centre half a problem. Keep him where he is, he gives us so much going forward.

For the moment, I'd agree.

But I can see him moving infield as he develops as a player.

It’s more in the youth team but yeah every player learns to play 3 positions. Lb would play Lm and Cb etc

Assuming the guys at the WC are going to get time off when they get put out I think we'll be running a back 3 for most of the qualifiers. Can see Tierney playing in the middle against the weaker sides and going back out wide against the better teams.

Morgan was busy. His two footedness will cause a lot of teams problems. Forrest was good. Looked a good few weeks ahead of schedule in terms of fitness.

Maldini switched from being the best left back possibly in history to being a world class centre back with aplomb. Most players who do this end up like Lustig though, passable at centre back in an emergency.

I could see Tierney doing it later in his career when he slows down though. He's a very good tackler.

Hayes had a couple of nice runs forward. He looked to be pretty much back to 100%, or as near as you'd expect after his lay-off.

Tierney offers way too much going forward and is too weak in the air to be considered a centre back in anything other than an absolute emergency.

On the topic of KT in the back 3, I highly recommend this video about Kyle Walker playing there for England.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34ONabfjsCs

Almost word for word it could be applied to KT, but on the left side of the pitch.

Southgate also said this of Walker, which again I think could easily apply to KT: “He has the attributes to play the position really well. You need players that are comfortable at defending in wide areas and used to using the ball in those areas. He’s a fantastic athlete, so he added more pace to our defence."

Completely understand the concern over losing what he brings from a left-wing-back position though. His ability to get up and down that flank and delivery would be difficult to replace - we've all seen what a problem not having this on the right side has been.

Might explain the LB rumours that surface
Might also explain why Brendan mentioned a back three when he was talking about the Compper situation.

Was thinking that could be ideal for PC Lustig as he winds down.

Compared to a few years back we did look pretty sharp for our first run out. The results are inconsequential but I still get the fear we'll get a thumping early doors from a band of alpen herdsman.

Just play Tierney at left back. He is good there and sets up so many chances. Left of a back three or centre back for cover is fine. As for holding midfield, we need to stop touting every reasonable defender for this positon. Just play a midfielder there.
