Doesn't matter if [he] has £2, 20 or 200 million - money doesn't equal success and the cost of the squad required to consistently best US at today's market rates, is prohibitive.

So the other way to compete with us is tactically and through new ways of thinking, something I don't think we have anything to worry about with this appointment.

If it has the nice side effect of jolting us out of occasional domestic complacency, as others have suggested, then that has to be welcomed.

I give him 18 months, max.
18 months - no chance.

If he doesn’t win the league this year they’ll turn on him.

I reckon he might walk before the season starts when his transfer targets fail to materialise
If he takes a doing at Celtic Park in the first round of fixtures and doesn't work some kind of miracle in Europe they'll be on his back.

This is a guy with no management experience, a squad on its arse and European qualifiers in just over two months.

Strachan was in a similar when he took us over and struggled to get it right, even with a lot of experience. Lennon had a bit longer to get on top of the squad and was almost gone after a disaster of a first half at Rugby Park. Even Rodgers had Lincoln Red Imps.

Is GeSSard going to survive those kinds of results?

Much as I think the appointment of a completely inexperienced man as manager has all the makings of a personal and professional catastrophe and will likely provide us with more episodes of genuine hilarity, part of me hopes that it's Billy Davies or the like that's unveiled at the press conference this afternoon. You'd be able to taste the rage and there would be flood warnings all over Scotland as the nation pishes itself laughing.

Hun origin rumour is Ashley is back in and King out hence the resignations of the directors that helped King oust big bad Mike.
except Ashley still owns Newcastle and can't own a majority share in another club.

Does anyone ever stop and digest this nonsense?
I think this is a fairly common misconception. Uefa ownership rules only apply to clubs playing in the same competitions. As Newcastle won't be applying for a European license any time soon, there is nothing stopping Ashley buying Rangers outright. And even if Newcastle do get into Europe before they are sold, Ashley would be entitled to acquire up to 49 per cent of Rangers with no conflict of interest. This would easily give him a controlling stake. Like I say though, the issue only becomes live if both Newcastle and Rangers qualify for the Europa League.
Was it not the sfa who stopped ashley owning more than 10% in sevco due to him having a controlling interest in newcastle? Did they not take him to court/sfa hearing to enforce this?

I just looked up their last set of unaudited accounts. 6 months up to 31st Dec 2017.
At that point they have a total of £17.7M of investor loans. They also took in that Close Brothers loan giving away the security of the car park etc for £3M or so.
The audited accounts before that say that they had a “projected shortfall of £4M in season 2017/18 and a further £3.2M in season 2018/19”.

So they need £3.2M just to stand still next season. They’ll be paying Gerrard plenty, and this new investment will need to be an interest free loan in addition to the £17.7M, or a new share offer. The share offer can’t happen due to the take over panel and Dave King having to pay around £11M for that. Plus they are still bumped off the stock market. So only maniacs would buy the stock under those circumstances.

If they do get funding they’ll be effed.

What really annoys me is that this is all happened coz they got away with the EBT's, Euro licence and all the other shady deals. If they had been dealt with properly, forced to start living within their means they’d have a decent corporate structure and be building like a normal football club. Not one built on debt, AGAIN!
Chris McGlaughlin was on sportsound last night saying he spoke to Brian Kennedy, who said if he got in right at the start, he would have done the complete opposite of what the huns have done since liquidation.

He said the hun support would have hated him in the first 4 or 5 years but it would be all about building slowly and remaining within budget.

Far too sensible for the huns though, so it would never have lasted.

God help them, they are pretending to believe we're running scared of this appointment. :brickwall:

The £120m from Singapore is a fantasy. Why would anyone "invest" four times the value of a business? Their maxed-out turnover is £30m pa. As I've previously pointed out, it's not even money laundering because no money comes out the far end. My reading of it is that King is petrified that he'll have to buy at least £4m worth of shares and be left with a club that's worthless. This is a desperate last punt at persuading no one to sell up if and when he is forced to make the ToP's offer. The collapse in STs after the last two humiliations has them looking into the abyss. He's gone all in with seven and three unsuited. We're almost at the end game.
7,2surely as with a 7,3 he could flop a straight

Still trying to build Rome in a day. They're not for changing, are they?

This'll be more fun than Warburton, Caixinha and poor old Murty put together. I can't have Coisty in that list yet; that taste is still too sweet :)

I'm pretty pleased with them getting him. It's perfect for us, an inexperienced manager but a big name one, will generate interest in the game up here so maybe we can get a better TV deal if it's due up soon. Also the board will be determined not to be overshadowed by the Stevie G show so I think we could get a couple of decent signings as well, players may even be more willing to come here.

My biggest worry was them getting someone like Steve Clarke, a competent manager who has shown he knows how to win in Scotland with no resources and past it players. Then him setting about slowly but surely building them a decent squad and getting the best out of them. Not that I thought Steve Clarke could have them winning the league or anything but I really like humping them 5-0 and seeing them going from one crisis to another and I doubt that would have happened under him.

Anyone else worried Gerrard may actually be a success?
Only in the same way that I’m worried whenever they bring in a new manager and worry that they may fluke a good appointment. Same way that I’m worried that any player we bring in will be a waste of money.

If Hibs or Killie had appointed Gerrard I’d probanly say ‘good for them, nothing to lose’.

The only thing that makes sense (I know) is that they do have serious money coming in. Gerrard's advisors would surely have done due diligence.
It'll be really interesting to see what they've come up with this time. Bring it on!
