Actually, Steve Clarke has shown this season at Kilmarnock that a good coach - especially someone who knows how to organise a defence - can make an almighty difference to teams previously considered to be hopeless. That’s why we should all be grateful that Sevco have decided to overlook such coaches and go for yet another bizarre left field gamble.
There's a successful management model in place at every club in the top 7 of the SPFL except one. Get an experienced head in and give him control

Sevco appear to have attempted to emulate this with McInnes, Clarke and Dyche but then abandoned it when they panicked and went for a season ticket selling squirrel.

Gerrard might get lucky, he might not, but if we look at the facts it seems unlikely he'll make much difference. His resources won't be dramatically different to those available to his predecessors, so it's up to the difference he can make personally.

Every manager they've had has achieved a similar level of performance. What's done each of them in ultimately is the reaction of the support once the team has failed to meet their unreasonable expectations.

They're solidly planted in the chasing pack behind us where Aberdeen, Hibs, Kilmarnock and Motherwell are. There's not a lot between those five teams and all are at the level you'd expect Sevco to be at given their form in the past few years. What they have is a combination of experience in the manager's office and stability behind the scenes. It's arguable that those two aspects are what's holding the better resourced Sevco back.

Not much seems likely to change soon either.
No, certainly not when board members are booting women and weans out the way to get to the lifeboats first.

Should be an interesting unveiling if it happens. A few empty chairs and Dave King on loudspeaker from South Africa, with Jabba's finger over the red button in case he says anything that might have Gerrard saying he needs a quick pish and doing a Captain Lawrence Oates.

You'd have to hope HC is right though
Can you imagine a youth team coach on a mission to give some of their best academy players (most of whom will never make it to the first team) regular game time...the satellite experiment would last 3 months.

Fingers crossed Gerrard takes this job.
Has anyone considered the “ WAG “ factor in the Gerrard saga? Of course you haven’t.
I bet Alex Gerrard is having a seizure at the thought of moving to Glasgow.

When Stevie turns them down, he’ll cite family reasons, weans, school, settled etc
Can you see Alex Gerrard nipping into Govan Asda in full wag mode, carrying her enormous 10 grand
Chanel bag ?
Actually I thought this might be in Sevco’s favour.
The drive from Liverpool to Glasgow is roughly 3h30 so the family wouldn’t even need to move
With their riches I’s have a chauffeur and snooze on the way, stay a night or two at a time and head back down in between.

Absolutely. I see it like this. The Huns are like someone who won big money on the lottery and quit their job and studies on the back of it. Bought a huge mansion, loads of fancy cars and pointless bling.

Meanwhile, Celtic stuck in and, over time, have become hugely successful independently to the point where they could have all of the same stuff as the Huns but actually afford it.

Now that the Huns have spent all the lotto money, had to pawn the cars and 5e bling and remortgage the house with a local loan shark because none of the banks will touch them, they are crying out about the unfairness of it all. They think that Celtic’s success is the same as their success, built on sand.

Problem is, we can actually afford this because we built from the ground up, losing leagues along the way but always advised to trust in the long term project. Their answer? Buy more lottery tickets.
That's brilliant.
And yet I still find it amazing that the transfer thread gets filled with people calling lawell this and that if the club doesn't "push the boat out" or "break the bank" to get whatever player is being discussed. Every transfer window is the same.

Murray resigned from his position because it was the most prudent thing to do in the current circumstances. It had absolutely nothing to do with "investors".

Des Kelly was on Talksport this morning talking to Alan Brazil about the Liverpool game and then moved on to SG. Did anyone hear it?

A few interesting comments i thought, AB pushed him after Kelly spouted the "Positive Talks have taken place and will continue over next few days" line and he said similar to Roy Hodgson message.

Kelly said that they had chatted last night and that SG is still waiting on answers to a few things including the usual "Whats his budget" but the next 2 peaked my interest as it seemed that SG or his people are asking the right questions. Who owns the Club? Who owns the stadium?

If SG is asking these questions and is still considering it then he is thicker than i though.
Very odd. Of the multitude of questions a potential manager might ask, why would ‘who owns the club and stadium’ feature? Why would he GAF?
Maybe asking on behalf of his new number two, Bomber?

With a huge weight of expectation on both sides. Sevco leaking this will have severely weakened their hand.

It also just occurred to me that Pedro wasn't the biggest managerial bust in the SPFL this season.

The bigger disaster and the one more closely comparable to Gerrard is Cathro at Hearts.

Thirteen years since they won one of them too
And here they are in their third CL final in that period, not to mention an EL final as well. And a Super Cup.
Go back two more years and you can add another Super Cup and UEFA Cup win to that. So that's four UEFA trophies, two other finals and another one coming up, all in the living memory of the vast majority of their support.
In my view, a club that doesn't have a winning mentality doesn't get near that level. You may disagree with that if you like but there really aren't many clubs whose fans have watched their club attempting to lift a European trophy six times already this century and are now booking their tickets for a seventh.

no one in their right mind counts the Super Cup...behave yourself !!

they have won eight proper European trophies not eleven.. (I know Aberdeen claim to have won two but no one believes that!! ;) )

they are heading for their fifth final since 2000 not their seventh

six in their golden era of the dozen or so years from 1973 to Heysel.. ..and I'm happy to accept they may have won more during the ban period but clearly they didn't/couldn't

they won the Uefa Cup in 2001 and the CL in 2005...since then two finals..one in 2007 and one in 2016..both lost...for they ninth richest club in the world five European finals in 17/18 years is hardly setting the heather on fire?

Sevilla have won the Europa League five times since 2006.. ..Atletico Madrid have been in four Euro finals since 2010...three different Russian teams have won Europa League since Liverpool last did..

and the only person making this frankly quite bizarre suggestion that Liverpool somehow see Rangers with Gerrard in charge as a satellite/feeder Club is you...not even the moonbeam artists in our media have come up with this astonishing concept??

I read that too but it seems like quite a leap to go from Clarke to Gerrard. If the strategy was to appoint a Clarke-style coach who could bring some low-key organisation and steady progress, I don’t see how that suddenly gets them to Gerrard. But I suppose that sums up the lack of coherent planning.
Informed speculation is that the board is split on Gerrard. Maybe that's why Swiss Tony and Cillit Bang walked yesterday.
IMO, those that speculated it is to do with the TOP ruling and recent court case are correct.

Scott and Paul have been made aware or realised that King has no intention of complying and are now vacating the blast zone. It could be 2 + 2 = 5 but it came directly on the heels of the court case.

The fallout could easily damage their careers if they stay around.

Haven’t read the whole of today’s episode with the hun today, but surely the papers are not saying that these two directors are leaving to make way for bigger and better guys? Since when was there a restriction on the number of directors you can have?

These two are leaving for one reason only, they’ve had enough of Kings bull waste.

If there's an earthquake coming, some people leave while they can, others can't leave and others still are arrogant enough to dismiss the threat.

Lets face it, Stevie G was never going to happen. Murray and Barry left because of the increasing toxicity with the FSC etc. Any 'investment' is going to be a few quid from some dodgy characters in Schezuan.
