Arrests? Give me a break.

Couldn't get moving down my street to get to my house after they finished. I stay 50 yards from a police station. I end up walking on the road to get past the hoardes of Orange bastards. 20 police standing outside the station watching the masses. I take 5 steps forward and notice 3 people with their pants roond their ankles taking a piss on the library wall. Police did nothing. Shock.

given approval to march and often grants to assist them march are given by local authorities its to them you should spout your ire
To be fair Glasgow City Council is run by the SNP. This was on their watch.

Parties of all colours have failed to control this pish and the SNP haven't either albeit they have a shorter record of failure than Labour. In Glasgow, it's their baby.
 I'm all for peaceful assembly and freedom of expression as long as the rights of others are not infringed, even if it makes me cringe or bawk. Find it difficult to understand how GCC failed to take any obvious action after last year's highly publicised renditions of the Famine Song, a song previously deemed racist and offensive in a Scottish Court. Thought Councils were required to review processions with the Police for public disorder and anti-social behaviour before granting future permissions.

Seem to recall an excuse that the bands simply play the tunes and can't be responsible for people putting words to it, or getting drunk and lairy. Don't recall any challenge that the tunes are deliberately chosen to invite and encourage the singing of racist and offensive songs.

Not convinced we need anymore half-baked Government interference SNP or otherwise. The Police need to do their job properly under existing laws, and Councils need to place conditions on individual marches regarding tunes played, songs sung and unacceptable behaviours associated with a march. Failure to comply should result in future years walkies being away from populated areas. They wouldn't be able to control themselves and within 5 year every march would be on a disused airfield in Ayrshire.

Is it just me that has a weird compulsion to want to watch a march? I'm the same with Tory Party Conferences. I've got quite low self esteem and I think watching and listening to them makes me feel a bit better about myself.

I don't understand why the SNP council haven't banned them either. I'll admit to not being sure of the law here though. Is it a 'freedom of expression' issue, or something? And thus knock-on effects for other marches? Given that practically zero of these knuckle-draggers will ever vote for the SNP, I find it odd that the party hasn't taken this on.
People want it banned because it's offensive & promotes hate, right wing nutters like the EDL would argue the same thing about anti fascism or anti war protests.

You open Pandora box when you try & ban the orange walk, it's why no political party has tried it. The SNP despite the OO hating them would probably have the biggest issue tackling it, it would be spun as the nats abusing civil liberties to silence people who don't like them.

If you want to beat them you need to turn them in to a laughing stock, haven't their numbers been dropping for years? Their parades certainly look smaller.

That is the issue right there.

As I’ve said before, i am not for banning marches or any other form of opinion or expression, but these monstrosities must be policed properly and robustly.

As far as I’m concerned, this is not a political issue, the legislation is there, this is a policing issue, where too many blind eyes are turned, ‘ because that’s what we have always done ‘

Generally, I’d be supportive of the cops, but I’d be expecting them to do their jobs on days like this.

Edit for auto correct, honest

I’d make the bassas pay for policing and clean up costs. That would soon cut the number of marches.

As an SNP supporter, I think they should grow a pair on this issue. I' reckon most people will either be supportive or indifferent to a ban tbh.

Will contact my councillor
100% labour man all my years until they sold us down the river with indiref, SNP man now.

SNP have absolutely no votes to lose from these neanderthals so I cannot for the life of me think why these sectarian marches are allowed.

The issue for any government is that's it's difficult to stop legally. You can make them pay for policing, and make them jump through hoops for licensing but out right prohibiting them is problematic.

Anti fascists and anti war cannot equate to these parasites detesting openly a large population of Scottish society.

Jesus. There were people having a pish under bridges after Trnsmt and I'm sure there will be fans having pishes after football games. If the police are going to nab people for it, then they can do that, its their job.

But taking pictures of folk with their knickers at their ankles as 'evidence' to report them?
