GERMAN police are to step up security when Rangers visit for their Champions League clash with Stuttgart - after branding Ibrox fans "high risk".

They claim the Scottish champions supporters have an "aggressive and hard-drinking" reputation in Europe.

Celtic visited the German city for the Uefa cup in February and the visit passed off peacefully and Gers make the trip on November 26.

German police spokesman Christiane Honer said: "We had a wonderful day here in February. The supporters of Celtic are known as hard-drinking but peaceful.

Precautions

"We also know the supporters of Glasgow Rangers are known as hard-drinking but also aggressive.

"That is the reason we categorise the match in November between VfB Stuttgart and Rangers as a high-risk match.

"So, unfortunately, we have to take more safety precautions than in February against Celtic."

The last time Rangers played in a Champions League match, in 1999 in Eindhoven, Holland, 19 Gers fans were jailed after street battles.

All bets are off... Ge55ard apparently does background checks on personality and character and then he meets players face to face, before,, yes before he offers them a contract...the effing genius....
When we are faced with that level thoroughness , well it's time to throw in the towel...
Maybe just maybe there is a chunk in the armour,,, he's no actually tested himself or his players in an actual game yet...

Don't know why some are scoffing at the idea of match-day volunteers; are we forgetting about the line of skilled bears queuing up to do renovation work on Ibrox - free of charge - during the banter years?
Remember it didnt go ahead because the hun who was organising it got caught up in a Chris Graham style anti muslim thing on Facebook, he also claimed to have been a para on duty during Bloody Sunday which turned out to be untrue, staunch as eff that bear

Apparently Sevco are advertising for “match day volunteers” to assist fans around the stadium footprint. Only source is two gullible fandans occupying the seats in front of me on the train who are applying ASAP.
It’s true. Job description a bit vague though.

WOULD you like to be part of the Rangers team as a volunteer on matchdays?

If you’re a good communicator and have a strong commitment to the Light Blues we want to hear from you.

We are looking for volunteer fans to assist the club around the stadium footprint and act as a matchday contact for supporters, pro-actively providing information and helping resolve any issues that our fans may face with accuracy and efficiency.

Successful candidates will be Rangers supporters themselves so will be able to think like those that they’ll be helping. Volunteers will have an engaging personality and be genuinely excited to help supporters. They’ll be patient, empathetic, and passionately communicative – they love to talk.

The target is to ensure excellent service standards.

If you are over 18 and think you’ve got what it takes email marketing@rangers.co.uk explaining why you would make the perfect volunteer for the club.

Heavy emphasis on the word “volunteer” there - just in case anyone gets the wrong idea & expects some sort of recompense for their efforts.

We should (or more likely the GB) have a big TIFO for the first rangers game of the season and look for people to put it together.

At the end of the match the big screens should say "Celtic would like to thank the volunteers".

T'was on a dreary New Years Eve
As the shades of night came down
A lorry load of volunteers approached the border town
There were men from Dublin and from Cork, Fermanagh and Tyrone
And the leader was a Limerick man - Sean South from Garryowen
