Sectarianism alive and well in Stuttgart

Rangers' visit to Baden-Württemberg this week was their third excursion to the area on Champions League business, a fact remarked upon by the Vfb Stuttgart president, Dr Erwin Staudt, when he addressed the Ibrox directors at the lunch traditionally given by the host club for their visitors on the day of the match.

"We specially welcome our friends from Glasgow with whom we are building a bond," said the affable Staudt.

"You have been here three times and we have been in Glasgow three times. We are both football clubs with long histories and passionate supporters."

The Rangers VIPS, who have had to become used to picking their way through the minefield of political correctness in recent years, nodded in agreement at these unexceptional observations.

However, they were bolt upright in their seats when the Herr Doktor went on: "And what is more, you are a Protestant club – and we also are a Protestant club."

Staudt then pointed at one his own directors and boomed: "We only employ one Catholic – and it is him!" At which the nominated director threw his hands in the air and cried out: "I am sorry! I am sorry!"

Altogether now, as they might sing in Baden-Württemberg: "Hallo! Hallo! Wir sind der Billy Boys!"
If memory serves, after Celtic played Stuttgart in the Seville year, the Police chief came out and praised the Celtic supporters for their behaviour and said we would be welcomed back with open arms.

Then the Huns visited and it was a bit of a shock to the good people of Stuttgart how different fans from the same city can be....
German clubs are always appreciative of the things we have done for them, like leaving the floodlights on for the Luftwaffe during both world wars

Also not pishing all over their town squares and not giving the locals “Ulster” salutes seem to also go down well for some strange reason

Aye, some done a few years did they not?... there was a quote from the mayor when asked why five hundred or so extra coppers were deployed for Oldco. It was something like "the Celtic fans have a reputation for drinking hard and having a party, the Rangers fans have a reputation for drinking and violence"

Has there been any comment on here or by the SMSM about Sevco having only one pre-season friendly before both their matches against FK Shkupi, while we have four plus a fifth between the games against Alashkert?

As they will be fielding total strangers, sounds to me that they will be ill-prepared.

Playing CL favourites Bury will be the equivalent of playing 4 games Timmy

Apparently Sevco are advertising for “match day volunteers” to assist fans around the stadium footprint. Only source is two gullible fandans occupying the seats in front of me on the train who are applying ASAP.

It’s true. Job description a bit vague though.

WOULD you like to be part of the Rangers team as a volunteer on matchdays?

Quote:

If you’re a good communicator and have a strong commitment to the Light Blues we want to hear from you.

We are looking for volunteer fans to assist the club around the stadium footprint and act as a matchday contact for supporters, pro-actively providing information and helping resolve any issues that our fans may face with accuracy and efficiency.

Successful candidates will be Rangers supporters themselves so will be able to think like those that they’ll be helping. Volunteers will have an engaging personality and be genuinely excited to help supporters. They’ll be patient, empathetic, and passionately communicative – they love to talk.

The target is to ensure excellent service standards.

If you are over 18 and think you’ve got what it takes email marketing@rangers.co.uk explaining why you would make the perfect volunteer for the club.

So they’re not expected to help visiting fans, who are less likely to know their way around?

Don't know why some are scoffing at the idea of match-day volunteers; are we forgetting about the line of skilled bears queuing up to do renovation work on Ibrox - free of charge - during the banter years?
