The headlines by the end of the week will probably be Connor Goldson:"End my Brighton hell" or a come and get me plea. Connor Goldson is desperate to join Rangers insists old pal James CollinsThe former Hibs striker says his old Shrewsbury teammate has been on the phone quizzing him about Scottish football. Spoiler: click to toggle ByAnthony Haggerty Connor Goldson is desperate to link up with hero Steven Gerrard at Rangers – according to mate James Collins. Former Hibs striker Collins revealed Goldson, who is a signing target of the new Ibrox boss, has been grilling him about Scottish football. Goldson and Collins were one-time team-mates at Shrewsbury, and the latter reckons Rangers will have hit the jackpot if they can land the highly-rated Brighton defender. Reports from down south last night claimed a £3million deal was edging closer. And if Rangers are successful in their pursuit of the player Collins, who spent a season at Easter Road in 2013/14, believes they will not only have recruited a superb footballer but also a leader. Connor Goldson will cost Rangers £3m as Brighton get serious over Steven Gerrard target Brighton are demanding at least £3m for Goldson who is at the top of Gerrard’s Ibrox wanted list. But Collins feels that would be a small price to pay for a player of such genuine quality. With Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy the preferred central pairing at the Amex Stadium and Mainz stopper Leon Balogun now on board, Goldson has fallen down the pecking order for a jersey. Now Record Sport can reveal the 25-year-old is so keen on a switch to Rangers that he has been sounding out his pal. The pair remain friends from their time at New Meadow and Collins revealed that lifelong Liverpool fan Goldson is excited at the prospect of playing under Gerrard – one of his Reds idols growing up. The 27-year-old, who is now with Luton, said: “A move to Rangers would suit Connor down to the ground. He is still a very good friend of mine and I speak to him often. “When the speculation about Rangers began, he asked me about a move to Scotland and I couldn’t recommend the club highly enough. “I told him I thought he could do very well there. Connor would be signing for a massive club if he joined and I believe he can do well. “Everyone who knows anything about football knows Rangers and Celtic are far superior to most clubs in Scotland. “Connor was also a massive Liverpool fan growing up and Steven Gerrard in particular was one of his heroes. “So if someone like Gerrard comes knocking on your door and is desperate to sign you then it will turn your head and you will certainly want to have a look at what is on offer. “He is a Brighton player for now but if the chance comes for Connor to go to Rangers then I am sure he would jump at it. “He is a young centre-half who has played a lot of games at a very good level. He is captain material, a natural-born leader. “He was the Shrewsbury captain when we played together and is also a very good footballer who likes to play the ball out from the back. “He is an all-round top player and a level-headed guy to have in the changing room. “While my time at Hibs did not go exactly to plan that is not to say it would be the same case with Connor. “If he joins Rangers, once he gets into a rhythm and develops a relationship with whoever he is playing alongside, I’m sure he will prove he has all the attributes to be a success.” Collins believes adding Goldson to the squad would not only give Rangers’ supporters a huge lift but it would signify an important first step in Gerrard’s Ibrox revolution. Collins said: “Bringing Connor in would be a brilliant signing coup for Gerrard and Rangers. “He is the kind of player who will help Rangers take the next step in order to get back to where they want to be. “Connor has Premier League and Championship experience and being at such a big club like Rangers wouldn’t faze him. “I’m sure he will kick on if he does sign for Rangers and the supporters will soon see what he has to offer.” Collins recalled Goldson clinched his deal to Brighton after he shone for Shrewsbury against Blackburn in a League Cup tie in 2015. The Seagulls were forced to shell out £750,000 for his services and Collins said: “Brighton were scouting Connor for the last time as they were undecided. It really was make-or-break time for the deal to happen. “We won 2-1 and Connor was absolutely outstanding. He was the best player on the pitch by a country mile and Brighton signed him the next day. “Now he is on the verge of a multi-million pound move to Rangers and I wish him every success.” https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/connor-goldson-desperate-join-rangers-12613190

I thought James Collins was the Welsh defender they were after? This James Collins was an absolutely useless striker for Hibs when they were relegated. Scores goals in English League Two, which is about his level.
The Welsh James Collins is a centre-back and a fair bit older (34/35).

Well, no one knew any of that at all.
You knew their bid was half his current wages ... well good for you. Pardon me, for not rereading the thread and checking to see exactly which parts were common knowledge. Maybe some folk would just like to read the article in the knowledge that the huns will have steam coming out of their ears? (maybe it's not just the huns) Wasn't having a go at you, it was a comment on the link.
At least this one didn't have to be read in a Ted Rodgers voice.

Jordan Rhodes is a Tim.
That rules that out then.
I actually thought that was part of their selection criteria these days........... Certainly doesn't seem to be a stumbling block to them trying to sign someone or for people to join.

The bother they're having signing a nobody from Brighton, after being KB'd by Skrtel suggests they probably aren't looking for players in the right places.
Yet. Again.

Can only assume they think he'll have a sell on value after a couple of seasons here.
However, he's proven already that he's not good enough for the top end of the Championship or the Premier League.

Rangers to sign Goldson Steven Gerrard is on the verge of completing a £3m deal to bring Brighton defender Connor Goldson to Rangers.
Brighton have rejected two bids from Rangers for Goldson, 25, but are now ready to do sell the ex-Shrewsbury ace if their bumper valuation is met.
New Gers chief Gerrard is ready to pay Goldson £20,000-a-week after making the centre back his top transfer target.
Boyhood Liverpool fan Goldson, who has played three Premier League games, is excited at the chance of linking up with boyhood hero Gerrard.

£3m isn't really a 'bumper valuation' for a player in an EPL side.

£3M for a guy who's played 8 league games in 2 seasons is insane.
Long may it continue. Well rested then!
He'll be raring to go, good buy
