He must be on £30k-£40k min in Turkey? They haven't shelled transfer fee money like this on a mid 30s veteran possibly since Advocaat times?

Old hun signing-check,middle of the road journeyman Scottish midflieder-check,over the hill formerly rated international defender-check, exciting loan signing who is going to be the next blah blah blah-check.

Punxsutawney zombie bastards, completely incapable of anything other than short term repetitive thinking and decision making.

To be fair, I suppose it's hard to imagine them being even worse next season, but I've made the effort because it's worth it.

What's even more fun is imagining us getting better results against the rest of the league while they completely implode. :)

We should only be worried if they sign folk good enough for our first team.

Talk of other teams improving is irrelevant.
We will improve next season -
10 draws? 7 at home?

Here's the last 7 years points totals by team.
Posted Image

Our worst was 79 and 82 this year was poor, so even if Aberdeen/Hibs/Rangers "improve" they still would need to be 3 wins better off at least with us not getting more points whatsoever to get close.
bigger version

To catch up that much, then they'd need to buy players of better quality than ours, and we'd need to stand still.

What's all the panic about!

Looks to me this is shampoo or bust for them, it's the Hail Mary pass in the last seconds of the game, its all in with a pair of twos and any other cliche you can think of. Burst them next season and they are done, hopefully never to return again. Interesting point at Man Utd ,Mourinho lost his number two and promoted his under eighteen coach to be his new number two. Meanwhile at Liverpool Klopp lost his number two and promoted...... oh he didn't he let him go lol.

Is Skrtel not knocking on 34?
Are Sevco not knocking on heaven's door?
Great lay off ...

No doubt it will be a payment plan like all their other signings. I'm guessing the ST money is seeing a hammering at the moment so I hope they aren't waiting on the share issue to happen urgently.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Closer isn’t good enough, they need to be very very good.

Look at this season, we have been at our very best when questions were asked of us. We respond well to any challenge put before us.
If they cut out the daft points they lose against others they'll challenge. Guys like Skrtel, Arfield and Mcgregor will improve their team markedly, Wilson ( going by reports would do so also) .
I don't want them improving at all . I'd rather they kept buying diddies like Goss, Cummings and Pena.

If we cut out the daft points we gave the oposition we will still be out of sight.

As with anything Sevco, I'll believe it when I see it. I do feel that the combination of Skrtel and the huns is a powederkeg waiting to explode. Look what happened to Ryan Jack when he got there. Is it 4 red cards last season? For that reason alone, I'd rather not have him anywhere near our players. But as far as gambles go, I'd guess he'll be better than anything they've currently got (which isn't hard).

Skrtel will definitely be better than what they've got, just like Kranjcar, Barton, Senderos, Alves, Pena, Cummings etc were.

I was looking back at the list of Scottish football champions on Wikipedia today. Ignoring the titles won through cheating/financial doping the hun haven't dominated Scottish football since the '30s. I'm defining dominated as winning 3 in a row. A strong hun isn't enough. They're not a big enough team, all things being equal and fair, to provide a consistent challenge. We need more than one team to every so often provide a challenge. Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs have to step up if the game is going to prosper.

I wish we could erase the 90's and 00's from the Scottish football psyche. It has done much more damage to the game up here than I think people realise. It has created a myth that wont go away of a team who are our equal. They simply are not and it is unlikely they ever will. It should be a chilling fact to the hun that from when they started cheating with EBTs till the day the old club died they won 5 out of 12 championships. Cheating didn't even bring an equal share of titles. How do you think it's going to go when it's a fair fight, eh Billy?
When did EBTs start? Surely the 90s was also riddled with false money Huns?
DOS EBTs started with Moore, Flo and De Boer from 1998 / 1999. The tax evasion years had begun.

Prior to that, Sir Minty borrowed, borrowed via his dodgy dealings with the Bank of Scotland, Masterton in particular.

It was always Other People's Money to create a "strong Rangers."

Financial doping and tax evasion created a "strong Rangers."

Cheating bastards.

That’s it exactly - all the focus seems to be the EBT angle but what Minty did over and above his DOS scheme and EBTs with his cronies Masterton and Grossart and the Edinburgh Establishment was worse.God knows what was going on with money loaned to MIM, Minty fueling up the huns with it then getting away with repaying 750-800m.lts an absolute scandal -people should read or watch “The Asterisk Years” as Paul Larkin covers this brilliantly

Alves is done but Skrtel couldn't have laced his boots in their respective prime. Skrtel defends with his hands mostly, a master of the drag back after being done, he's a wrestler prone to giving away free kicks in red card or dangerous set piece areas.

Skrtel is an accident waiting to happen.

Now if they could just sign Phil Jones to partner him....

Saw Alves at the start of September last year play for Portugal against Hungary and despite the Portuguese keeping a clean sheet, I thought Alves looked poor.

Watched Skrtel for Slovakia six weeks later against Scotland and I thought he looked solid but NOT spectacular albeit it was a very defensive performance.

I suspect Skrtel is probably better than Alves but that is not saying much. To pay £2.8M and give him a contract probably worth at least £30K a week for three years is financial madness

Skrtel is a good defender. That's it. He would complement a ball playing defender well. The huns don't have one. Mibbe they'll take a run at Charlie Mulgrew.

skrtl when at liverpool was a bombscare at the back, a dirty bastard but also error prown, the season the bin dippers could have one the league until gerrard slipped - count the number of goals conceded and the manner by skrtl and sakho - they were equally if not more culpable than 1 gerrard slip
That was a tough read.

If there's one manager who should know exactly how to exploit Skrtel's weaknesses, having seen them exploited so many times when he managed him, it's BR. Well played, huns.
