Looking a Defoe's stats hes only a 10-12 goals a season scorer with a goals to games ratio of 0.33. Not worried in the slightest but he would be a huge waste for money them lol
Defoe would score goals up here no problem, good finisher

Getting promised guys like Gerry Defoe & Peter Crouch in order to moonbeam your way to buying a season ticket.....

Only to take your seat in the Broomloan for first game of the season to see a strikeforce of Jason Cummings & Oli McBurnie (both on loan)

£600 well spent Timmy!

Surely they've sold the majority of season tickets at this point anyway?

Game is a lot quicker up here, not sure he'd be able to keep up at 36

Iain Wright was a better finisher and look how that panned out

Defoe, even at 35, is on a way different level to what they have. Whether he’ll ever be near them is another matter.

Defoe, unlike all the other has-beens they've signed, is still a good player and keeps himself in shape.

TBH, I wouldn't be shocked to see a couple of good-in-their-day signings wash up at Sevco. King is going all in with Gerrard, Gary Mac, one last season of sold-out STs and the new kit deal. This is it for him -- stop the ten and pray for CL group stage qualification. It's win or bust. He's like one of those desperate guys who cash in everything they own and head for Vegas, book into the top floor of a hotel with a balcony, and put everything on black in one spin of roulette or one hand of blackjack.

Stop them this season and they will wither and die. And King will lie splattered (figuratively) around the pool.
Only really works as an analogy if the roulette wheel had something like five black slots and all the rest were marked Celtic.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
When have they bothered about spending within their limits?
They can only spend what they bring in.

£10m is what they spent in reality because it is all they had. The PR through piecemeal, sensationalist reporting may have tried to convince everyone otherwise but the accounts tell us all that is needed to be known.

Even at that they lost £6m that year due to non recurring costs. I wonder if we will see different non recurrring costs this year.

I get your point but but the end of the day they are constrained by cash. To maintain that level of spend they need to raise £6m in a rights issue.

Sticking to the numbers keeps things real which is exactly what they don’t want.

On £29m turonover they can just about breakeven at £10m first team squad costs. Assuming no non recurring costs.
 It's all about the money

A loss-making clumpany with a £29m turnover versus a profitable club with a £100m turnover

I think the 65k per week he's on will be a stumbling block

Defoe's last contract was £65k a week rising to £130k if he scored enough goals. It was a 3 year deal only signed last year after Sunderland went down. Given Sevco's ceiling is probably around the £35k a week mark (being generous) and it would require compensation I doubt he'll be playing in the SPFL next season.

Defoe only started 11 EPL games last season.

He made 26 appearances and scored 4 goals.

In those 26 games he played 90 minutes 3 times, otherwise averaging 40 minutes a game.

That's not a player that any team should be making their main striker at his age.

Hope they get him.

Defoe? :ponder: yes, scores and costs.

Crouch? Will score and must be on a massive salary.

McGregor. Shot stopper and costs.

Just how does this get paid for? It's madness. Madness, I say.

Just can't fathom it. As they say, follow the money.

Going by that analogy then the Huns wouldn’t have been worried when we signed Sinclair

You’re all making the mistake of trying to figure it out. Even Sevco don’t do that.

Brendan Rodgers is the only person that will decide that :)
