Arfield is a consistent and fairly low key performer. He’s not a game-changing acquisition by any stretch of the imagination and I’m not buying that £38,000 salary story. I doubt he was on even half of that at Burnley, where he struggled to get a game latterly.

Airfields pish couldn't get a game at Burnley the same Burnley that Barton walked straight in to the starting 11 loving all this pish from Gerrard will make it all the more sweeter when he's 15 points behind is at Christmas.

The average wage in the premier league last year was over 50k p/w. I’d imagine the reported 38k from Sevco will be the maximum he can make with bonuses etc, I’d also suspect that his signing on fee will be paid over the course of his first two seasons.

Burnley, like us, is a club which is run very much within its means. It has a wage cap at probably among the lowest level in the Premiership. Arfield, according to my ST holder pals was on around £20kpw.

If I was a Hun i'd be getting worried that amidst this so called Ge55ard revolution, Jamie Murphy is still seen as a worthwhile acquisition.

Minimum 1.3million for Jamie Murphy
Absolute shampooebag of a player, money well spent as usual. Another player I'd be surprised if Gerrard has ever heard of, so why are they signing him?

Got a text this morning saying Barry(8) said in an interview that there are loads of ex Hun players being chased for tax payments from Hector but can’t see anything online Second text says Hector is also looking into ways of going after spouses for debt owed when assets have clearly been transferred to try and defraud. Oh I do hope this is true
There's this from the 13th. TAX FALLOUT Rangers legend Barry Ferguson says aftermath of ‘Big Tax Case’ and EBT saga has left players in ‘difficult situations’More than £47million was paid to Gers stars, managers and directors between 2001 and 2010 by Murray Group, owned by ex-chairman Sir David Murray Spoiler: click to toggle By David Fowler BARRY FERGUSON admits the aftermath of the Rangers EBT saga has put former players in “difficult situations”. More than £47million was paid to Gers stars, managers and directors between 2001 and 2010 by Murray Group, owned by ex-chairman Sir David Murray. And last summer the taxman won a judgment over the Ibrox club’s use of loans to pay staff in a tax avoidance scheme. Ferguson was asked about “the tax situation” in an interview on BT Sport by presenter David Tanner. He said: “It’s not been life changing it’s been disappointing for a lot of the players. “There are still ongoing issues that you can’t speak about. “It’s disappointing for the players. “I know a lot of the players are in difficult situations just now, that doesn’t help. “But obviously I can’t go into it in depth but that’s what’s happened” Last July the ex-Ibrox skipper – paid £2.5million in EBT money – declared himself bankrupt with debts topping £1.4million. He was confirmed insolvent after he failed to settle large bills thought to be owed to the taxman. The long-running dispute – dubbed the Big Tax Case – played a pivotal role in Gers’ financial collapse. It ended with the Supreme Court dismissing an appeal by the liquidators of RFC 2012, formerly The Rangers Football Club plc, and ruling in favour of HMRC. The club had contended the funds should be classified as loans but HMRC insisted they were taxable earnings. Meanwhile, Ferguson has opened up on the one Old Firm game he’d love to forget. The ex-Gers captain and his friends were caught up in a scrap following the 6-2 defeat to Martin O’Neill’s Celtic in 2000. The former Scotland skipper went out for drinks with pals after the derby loss. He said: “Yeah, you learn from your mistakes. “That was after an Old Firm game. One I’ve got to say one Old Firm game I’d love to forget. “I shouldn’t have gone out. Had a few beers and got into a scrap because one of my mates got attacked. “As I said, I think I am talking for anybody here. If you see one of your friends getting attacked you are obviously going to help your friend. “And that’s what I done. But I shouldn’t have put myself in that situation. “ https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/2635047/barry-ferguson-rangers-difficult-situations-tax-ebts/
I really don't see the problem here just present your bill from HMRC along with the letter the club gave you as an indemnity at iPox and problem solved The tax relationship is between the individual and HMRC; the side letter is a contractual agreement between the player and the Huns... he could always sue for breach of contract. Good luck getting anything out of that corpse!

Wonder what became of the club that gave the indemnity? Why is that said indemnity is less than useless?

You do have to laugh when you think back to all the hun chat about there must be a warchest or he wouldn't have taken the job.
As with any rookie manager working under a DOF, he's not calling the shots.

Airfield is on around 20 bangers a week. I'd say that's closer to the truth. No way a 29-year old's getting £38k a week for four years. I'd imagine the only reason he's getting 4 years is because he's insisted on it on account of the lower than usual wages - the longer term security balancing out the drop in earnings.

Gerrard's first signing, "“I was aware of Rangers’ interest for a number of months, so it’s great to get it over the line". ARF 'N RUNNING Rangers new boy Scott Arfield insists he can help end their seven-year wait for major silverwareThe 29-year-old has returned to Scotland and joined the Ibrox club on a four-year deal after helping Burnley to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League Spoiler: click to toggle By Colin Duncan SCOTT ARFIELD has admitted he is proud to be the first signing of Steven Gerrard’s Rangers revolution. And the midfielder insists he has what it takes to end the Ibrox club’s seven-year wait for major silverware. The Canadian cap penned a four-year deal after running down his contract with Burnley. The former Falkirk and Huddersfield Town star had the option to remain at Turf Moor, but felt he couldn’t turn down Gers. Arfield said: “Of course there is pride to be the first signing. “I also think it is only going to go one way because these are exciting times and this club is going to be so successful. “This was more attractive for me. “Growing up around these parts, you know how big a club this is. “I was aware of Rangers’ interest for a number of months, so it’s great to get it over the line. “There were a few other options in England, but as soon as a club of this magnitude came in then it was something that appealed to me and my family. It was a no-brainer. “It wasn’t really a tough decision to leave Burnley, to be honest. “I’d been there for a number of years and I wanted to be part of something here where Rangers are going on to better things. “I want to show people in Scotland how much I have improved. “I think I left a good player and I’m coming back a far better one, mentally and physically. “I’m coming back as a natural leader. When I went down there I was almost like a wee boy. “If you can’t handle the expectation at a club like this then it’s not for you but I believe that I can do that.” Gerrard welcomed the arrival of the 29-year-old. However, the new Ibrox boss made it clear there is plenty of work still to be done before Rangers can even think about challenging Celtic. Gerrard said: “I am delighted to have added Scott to the squad. “He is a talented and competitive midfielder, who has competed at a high level in the English Premier League and internationally for Canada. “It’s pleasing also that we have been able to start our rebuilding process so quickly after the end of the season. “There is much more to be done, of course, as we look to build towards our Europa League campaign, which will start in early July. “Scott is the first one in and I look forward to working with him and the others who’ll be coming in to strengthen the squad.” https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/2641534/rangers-scott-arfield-end-wait-silverware/ "....this club is going to be so successful"

Arfield, according to my ST holder pals was on around £20kpw. From what I can see the average wage is 26kPW and you would think some of the newer players signed for a bit of money would bump up the average.
I would have guessed there is a chance he would be increasing his salary by coming to Scotland. I don't believe Phils figures unless it includes signing bonus paid over time
They never learn

That's not how a yearly budget works. I think DKB is implying that's how it's calculated at The Rangers 2012. It's what "£20m war chests" have been based on in the past.

I just asked my work colleague who is a bit of an EPL geek about Arfield. The blank look on his face tells me all I need to know That makes sense though, because his two best seasons for Burnley by far were the two in the Championship (16 goals in 91 games total), where he helped them win promotion both times. He's always looked a bit out of his depth when they went up to the PL (5 goals in 86). They got relegated in the first season (14/15), and he was dropped from the team this year when they started to make real progress (rather than just yo-yoing).
