Any Scots or Irish catholic who signs for that mob, knowing what they know, ought to be ashamed of themselves. A Celtic supporter is even lower again and as for Mo Johnstone; wouldn't spit on the guy if he burst into flames

Have always struggled with this to be honest. If we are going to slag them for going years without signing Catholics, is it then reasonable when they do try to sign Catholics to expect Catholics to refuse ?

Unless your position is that they should be allowed to have a bigoted recruitment policy and left alone to get on with it in their midden if that's what they want.

Fwiw I wouldn't play for them, (and resent even paying them for Ibrox tickets), but it does seem inconsistent.

Firstly, Ian Paisley was probably more of a Catholic than Mo Johnstone. Johnstone would have sold his Granny for a tenner.

Secondly, John McGinn is not signing for Sevco. End of.

The remarkable thing is that despite almost 30 years in which they have had RC players, managers and at least one captain the organisation (both organisations) managed to retain the same rotten bigoted core.

The sight of Neil McCann standing next to the Deadco vice chairman as he was bellowing about being up to his knees in fenian blood comes to mind.

And the fact that whenever they ask their supporters to refrain from singing bigoted songs the reason given is because it will get them into trouble. Not because the songs are in themselves disgusting

That seems a sensible approach to me. If they made a big thing about them being disgusting, the Huns would take no notice and start muttering about taig lovers and Lundy men

If they think it will cost the club points or ground closures etc then they might think twice. Have to know your audience.

At the end of the day, if the club do want the songs cut out, then self interest is the better approach. Trying to shame the Huns is pointless.

I don't see the inconsistency tbh. Oldco's sectarian signing policy may have been abolished but the club still panders to the base element in the Huns support which, if anything, has got even worse since the birth of Sevco. Why would I want to play in front of a support which is singing about being knee deep in my blood? Which is telling my cousins across the irish sea to go home? I wouldn't pull that shirt over my head for a million pound a week.

I iive in England so not always up to date with the Scottish press. Is there any ex Celtic player who as a regular column whose sole purpose is to pass comment on all matters Celtic and nothing else? I can think of 3 ex hun players whose sole purpose is to pass comment on all things Sevco - BFDJ, Monster Munch and Captain Trackie. I know there is Davie Proven but he passes comments on any club/issue as he sees fit. is there a Celtic equivalent of BFDJ on a Glasgow newspaper? A Celtic leaning commentator on all things Celtic? Or is it all just a one way Sevco propaganda exercise?
Chris Sutton in the Records column is about Celtic mostly , With the rare diversion .

Wouldn't matter if they did , Derby is for 3yr old Colts , even Sevco at 6yrs wouldn't qualify for entry. :suspect:

ScobieBreasley.CSC :rocker:
Always thought the Derby was for technically for 3yo Colts or fillies, although fillies typically run in the Oaks, which is fillies only and over the same distance.
Likewise the 2,000 and 1,000 guineas.

You are correct fillies have run & won the Epsom Derby but unusual for them to run! :i_say2:

I'm pretty sure John Hartson has a column in one of the red-tops; I remember reading it in a cafe getting my haircut on a train.

Just finished my shift on this lovely day. Hoping to get home and enjoy what's left of it.
My bus has been stuck behind an orange walk for the last half an hour and no sign of it ending soon. And I am roasting on this bus. Someone please cheer me up

Roasting because of roasters!

On the off topic subject of the Derby six fillies have won the Derby. The most recent was Fifinella in 1916.

I suppose the closest thing to this would be black players at some Russian clubs playing in front of fascist Russian fans. At the end of the day though for the vast majority of players it's all about the £££££££££.

Any truth in the rumour that SG hasn't actually signed anything ? Met a guy last night who said he'd heard a whisper that SG isn't completely tied in yet.
As I posted a number of pages back:

Bomber 2012: "Show us ra deeds!"

Bomber 2018: "Show us ra contract!"

There is something not quite stacking up in all of this. :suspect:

I think his point is that the club is still the same club, they only say and do things so as not to get into trouble, they didnt think of the songs as wrong, just as something that they’d get in trouble for.

I saw a video of him talking about it in Dubai, says it's been a whirlwind, honour etc etc.
