Is there any other (legal) line of business where this guy would be taken seriously? :cuckoo:

Unless qualification is revolutionised, they will never qualify for the Champions League again. Mounting up a growing deficit on the assumption that, sooner of later, they just magically will do is the most absurd thing I've ever heard. Romanov-grade insanity. Imagine what the reaction from the SFA would be if Hibs or Aberdeen came out with a line like that?

It's not like they aren't warned. Again and again and again. But they believe what they want and the inevitable result is they get shat upon from a great height. Which is wonderful.
We warned them about Murray. They ignored us. We warned them about Whyte. They ignored us. We warned them about Green. We warned them about King. They ignored us. And that worked out so well for them. We're warning them again.
We're far, far too kind to them. They'll ignore us, it will go tits up, Gerrard will get sacked, King will lie to them again either side of another administration event. And somehow, it will all be our fault. Which is wonderful.

It’s official now.

Their strategy is: Hope that we fail and then hope that our cost structures are sort of like the one they had 10 years ago.

Brilliant, just brilliant.

Amazing in'it?

Dave's grand plan is to sit back and hope we're pish for a season. :lmao:

This should be pitchfork and car park material. Absolute mentalist.

By the way

‘They’ll fold like a pack of cards’

Is just what he thinks will happen - like he’s at the golf with his mates and he opines on how things play out over a cigar

It’s the big phud in the clubhouse patter - juvenile and not really very well thought out - it’s not a strategic and informed view - it’s just a big crass choob talking to his mates - ‘aye punch them in the nose and they fold like a pack of cards’

He’s wandered into urban myth style statements - sometimes when you punch the bigger guy in the nose - he knocks ten bells out of you - he doesn’t run away with a new found respect for you - he just punches you harder and gets his mates to join in -

As Chris Rock said - ‘people like to say what goes around comes around - no it dont - sometimes stuff just keeps coming round’

Anyway - you fold like a house of cards anyway not a pack - can’t even get his metaphors right

If you’ve got the money, why did you agree a £3 million overdraft with Close Brothers?

It’s a significant achievement. For this club to normalise relationships it’s important. Clubs don’t operate without this facility. No club in the world does. Rangers were in a situation where we were denied facilities. So what we’re proving to the world now is that we can get facilities. We want facilities - I’d love to get an overdraft facility. It shows a normalisation of Rangers. It’s our single greatest achievement. To me, the best thing we did was getting that Close facility. That was huge for this club, that we could actually go out into the market place and finally get a third party to give us that facility. That was enormous for the normalisation of this club.

Yep. It's a very competitive field but this is possibly the most brazen, mindboggling thing he said in that entire compendium of lies.
And they will believe it.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
I was with a Liverpool based football agent yesterday and he was totally gobsmacked regarding the move, he is scathing over Sevco and particularly King. There was no mention of other issues. If there was an underworld factor, why hasn't he moved his wife and family? Look, I may be wrong, but I can't see it.
I was told that their aint much of a "family" to move.

This is all 2nd hand info but its not from football sources, rather from friends of the Mrs.

Gossip like this... effs sake. Liverpool to glasgow is a couple of hours away. It's not as if he's got plastic surgery and moved to Laos.

Q: Will appointing Steven Gerrard generate money?

DK: I think it will help us in the sense that the climate will be easier to deal with. Some of the Hong Kong investors have already said: ‘Dave we could maybe look at putting more into the club’.

It’s not really going to change it from my point of view because we have enough lined up for what we want to do. I don’t want more money into the club at this point in time, I don’t want more money just for the sake of spending it. We have a certain plan and the funds are available for next year whether there is a rights issue or not and I’m not going to change that.

But the climate is better, there’s no doubt that the profile of the club is higher. As is the interest in the club, internationally. We have already seen from Rangers TV output that we have had Chinese and Indonesians and Indians looking at Rangers Football Club because Steven Gerrard is here. That’s good. But in the short term it will have no impact whatsoever.

Loans off the field have also been an ongoing topic at Ibrox, where operations have been part-funded by interest-free borrowings. The club’s auditors signed off the most recent accounts on the understanding that a further £7.2 million would be raised over two seasons, to take the soft loan total close to £23m.

“I would expect us only to start making a profit when we are back playing Champions League,” King said. “Until that point, I think we are going to have to continue funding the deficit every single year.

“We have had Chinese and Indonesians and Indians looking at Rangers Football Club because Steven Gerrard is here. That’s good, but in the short term it will have no impact whatsoever.”

Dave King: Celtic's domestic dominance is like a "pack of cards" - one Scottish title win is all Rangers need
Matthew Lindsay @MattLindsayHTChief Football Writer
[IMG]
Rangers chairman Dave King leaves Ibrox after giving a media briefing.

RANGERS chairman Dave King last night compared Celtic’s domestic dominance to “a pack of cards” and predicted just a single Scottish title win could tip the balance of power in favour of the Ibrox club.

The South Africa-based businessman revealed that Rangers hope to raise £6 million from a share issue “by the end of June”.

He confirmed that Steven Gerrard, the Liverpool and England great who was appointed manager on Friday, will be money to spend in the transfer market.

And he predicted that taking the income from the Champions League group stages – something which is worth in excess of £30 million – away from Celtic would enable Rangers to compete with them.

Asked how Rangers could challenge Celtic again, King said: “We appoint a manager who can win games, with more resources, and we take one league away from Celtic.

“We only need one league. We don’t need two or three. We need one. Once we take one away, it’s a pack of cards.

“With all Celtic’s resources they are not a million points away from Aberdeenor Hibs. They (Aberdeen and Hibs) have resources that are far less than what we have at the moment. We are bringing in a manager we think can tip the balance in our favour.

“Celtic’s costs structure is more like we were 10 years ago. We needed Champions League football and if we went into the Europa League we were in trouble because the cost structure was so high.

“Take that away for one season and it will change the numbers in the Celtic side very, very quickly. They have the comfort levels we once had of knowing we were going to get Champions League money.

“We have to take that away from them and hopefully we have started that process on Friday.”

King added: “Do Celtic’s resources put them beyond you forever? The answer is clearly no. We have seen the cycle. I was with Rangers when we thought Celtic would never catch up, never in a hundred years.

“Dick Advocaat said they would never, ever catch up. I think it lasted 11 minutes into the next game we played against them when we went 3-0 down. They caught up and then went past us because Martin O’Neill came in and figured out a different way to do it.

“You need the right management structure to do it. At the moment we’ve gone more top heavy on management because we have invested in the squad and struggled with stability in the manager’s office. We’ve gone the other way. We have now gone very, very strong in the management squad.

“It depends on if they decide to invest or how well they invest. Celtic might be over-resourced, but you can still only play 11 players. They have a big squad earning a lot of wages, but these wages are not all getting on the pitch. There are opportunities there.

“If it’s hard then it’s harder for both of us. We don’t have to guarantee it, we have to narrow the gap against Celtic. So if Celtic are not getting it then that’s fine in that sense. It’s bad for Scottish football, but it doesn’t create a gap between us.”

We’re doomed :Bye:

That King interview makes Lawwell look like a visionary. The real parallel between Celtic and Rangers / Sevco Rangers is that we learned from our financial difficulties and built a sustainable business model which has led to success on the park; whereas they died spending beyond their means chasing European money / glory and now intend to do exactly the same, but from a much worse-off starting position.

Dave King's strategy and its inevitable outcome can be accurately summed up in this 18 second clip of the Simpsons.

Absolute unabashed drivel, I imagine the interviewer was just sitting their with his jaw on the floor.
King must have a lower opinion of the Huns than we do.
I’m just stunned really at that, where on earth do you start.....

David Murray had moonbeams but that is just a monsoon of pish and shampoo.
