Reading back on some of the comments made today, did I actually read that he, Dave King, had given an assurance to the SFA that The Rangers were “fully funded for season 2018/19”?

Did the SFA accept that assurance from a man who, in the past couple of months has told a court of law that he’s penniless and who today, amongst other things, admitted Sevco were deliberately running at a loss and claimed he wasn’t able to immediately open a bank account in the Uk? A man who tends to lack that one thing, a good memory, all fibbers require?

The SFA needs to get a grip on this circus at Ibrox. Failing to come out now and, very publicly call out the nonsense going on in King’s Big Top will only backfire on them when we reach the “sumbdae should huv telt us we wur bust” stage.

Would it be allowed for Gerrard to put some of his own money into the Rights issue, or even for that to be tied into him getting the job ?
Wrong kind of share issue.

"Rights issue" (what King is talking about) is where the existing shareholders, including himself, are offered the "right" to buy more shares at a fixed price. This is usually done at a discount to the current market value to encourage folk to buy in. The other reason for buying in is that if you don't exercise the right, the value of your existing holding is diluted.

For folk who are not existing shareholders to buy new shares, they would have to make some sort of public offering. This is what Fergus McCann did with Celtic more than once in the late 90s, mainly to fund the rebuilding of Celtic Park. This can raise more money, as it can attract new investment (a lot of the Celtic shares were initially bought by ordinary fans), but it is more expensive in setup costs because it has to be widely advertised.

Dave King: Celtic's domestic dominance is like a "pack of cards" - one Scottish title win is all Rangers need
Matthew Lindsay @MattLindsayHTChief Football Writer

Rangers chairman Dave King leaves Ibrox after giving a media briefing.

RANGERS chairman Dave King last night compared Celtic’s domestic dominance to “a pack of cards” and predicted just a single Scottish title win could tip the balance of power in favour of the Ibrox club.

The South Africa-based businessman revealed that Rangers hope to raise £6 million from a share issue “by the end of June”.

He confirmed that Steven Gerrard, the Liverpool and England great who was appointed manager on Friday, will be money to spend in the transfer market.

And he predicted that taking the income from the Champions League group stages – something which is worth in excess of £30 million – away from Celtic would enable Rangers to compete with them.

Asked how Rangers could challenge Celtic again, King said: “We appoint a manager who can win games, with more resources, and we take one league away from Celtic.

“We only need one league. We don’t need two or three. We need one. Once we take one away, it’s a pack of cards.

“With all Celtic’s resources they are not a million points away from Aberdeenor Hibs. They (Aberdeen and Hibs) have resources that are far less than what we have at the moment. We are bringing in a manager we think can tip the balance in our favour.

“Celtic’s costs structure is more like we were 10 years ago. We needed Champions League football and if we went into the Europa League we were in trouble because the cost structure was so high.

“Take that away for one season and it will change the numbers in the Celtic side very, very quickly. They have the comfort levels we once had of knowing we were going to get Champions League money.

“We have to take that away from them and hopefully we have started that process on Friday.”

King added: “Do Celtic’s resources put them beyond you forever? The answer is clearly no. We have seen the cycle. I was with Rangers when we thought Celtic would never catch up, never in a hundred years.

“Dick Advocaat said they would never, ever catch up. I think it lasted 11 minutes into the next game we played against them when we went 3-0 down. They caught up and then went past us because Martin O’Neill came in and figured out a different way to do it.

“You need the right management structure to do it. At the moment we’ve gone more top heavy on management because we have invested in the squad and struggled with stability in the manager’s office. We’ve gone the other way. We have now gone very, very strong in the management squad.

“It depends on if they decide to invest or how well they invest. Celtic might be over-resourced, but you can still only play 11 players. They have a big squad earning a lot of wages, but these wages are not all getting on the pitch. There are opportunities there.

“If it’s hard then it’s harder for both of us. We don’t have to guarantee it, we have to narrow the gap against Celtic. So if Celtic are not getting it then that’s fine in that sense. It’s bad for Scottish football, but it doesn’t create a gap between us.”

We’re doomed :Bye:

That interview with king is incredible. It’s as if he’s deliberately provoking TOP to come in and administer the coup de grace. Or deliberately provoking the SFA and UEFA by stating they can only return to prifit with CL money. FFP was brought in specifically to stop clubs from doing that. His “house of cards” comments about Celtic are moonbeams on a scale greater than anything Murray ever came up with.

The whole interview is the ravings of a lunatic.

It's absolutely delusional. What a feeble bunch asking him those questions.

He sits and lies to them - 'We said Murty would get to the end of the season and he has' eh he got sacked before the end of the season ya plum.

If your credit isn;t good enough to get a loan from the bank this is still a good thing as long as you have the ambition and ability to get a short term, high interest loan from Dave 'the drill' Martin down the corner.... apparently... in the world of King.... that's finance for you.

They're going to swallow that lot aren't they?

Image the uproar if King didn’t pay Close Bros. but instead offered them the security assets. When they’re gone they’re gone.

Celtic's board continually say that we budget every year for Europa League group stage football, so I've no idea where King is getting this house of cards nonsense from.

Actually, I do. His arse.

Also sounds like they're putting more emphasis on a management team than improving that absolute shambles of a squad, which is even better news than I'd dared hope.

It’s official now.

Their strategy is: Hope that we fail and then hope that our cost structures are sort of like the one they had 10 years ago.

Brilliant, just brilliant.

Presumably the journalists who were invited got in on the proviso that they held those comments until pub chucking out time so only fellow steamers are reading them.

That King plan in full/fool.

1. Appoint an U18 manager and convince yourself that experience is entirely optional

2. Win the league just once, an event so shattering Celtic will collapse.

3. Negotiate 4 play off rounds unseeded to get in to the group stages of the Champions League at the first time of asking with a squad comprising Andy Halliday, Greg Docherty and loads of top notch loan/youth players desperate to work under Stevie G.

So much for their dignified refusal to talk about other clubs. Will anyone in the Press pack call this banger out? He’s gone well beyond shark jumping now.
