People are deluded if they don't think Gerards appointment won't enhance Scottish football's profile next year. Of course it will. Yeah we do still scud them and romp the league but the build up to the first derby will be massive worldwide. Mentor v student, Celtic v rangers and this with two high profile names in world football. As far as I can see it's a win for all except for Rangers as they will turn on Gerard quick smart. Still it's more enticing than Rodgers being up against Warbs, Pedro and Murty.

As I said in my earlier post though - UK aside - nobody else in world football will be interested in this. From the garbage getting spouted in the media, you'd think the Real Madrid supporters were huddled round their TV's yesterday waiting for the smoke.
I don't recall anyone suggesting that Real Madrid supporters were awaiting news of the next Sevco manager.

The appointment of Gerrard isn't going to suddenly signal a return to the halcyon days of the sixties and seventies when Scottish football was relevant, but it is naive to suggest that it hasn't created a little interest. You refer to the UK aside, but the usual case is that Scottish football is a joke in England - if it is even considered at all. The past couple of days it has been amongst the headline articles in the sport section of The Times website; ordinarily I have to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page where they keep the Scottish news to find any articles referencing Scottish football.

You and I can appreciate it for the outrageously desperate and fickle move it seems to be, but a former England captain and European Cup winner coming north has clearly generated more interest than usual in Scottish football, and it isn't a bad thing - particularly if it means more eyes on the latest hun calamity.
Watched Premier League Tonight on BT Sport last night, and they did discuss it. So Yes, it has generated interest in England.

However, when, during that discussion, they claim that Gerrard has joined the second best team in Scotland, it is clear the know hee haw about Scottish football. And Gerrard being here isn't going to see English based journalists show any more interest in the next Dundee v Motherwell game.

As a wee aside he was a bus driver for Parks - He always has shown his bigotry the wee pumpkin!!!

When he was at Parks he had a run in in their depot with a Bhoy from Easterhouse who ran a CSC (some on here will know who he is from that) - The Tim called Bell out and offered him a "square qo" there and then - Bell ran into the Depot and got four of his mates - In addition to being a horrible, bigoted piece of work and embarrassment to humanity he is also a total shiiitebag!!!

That's my point though, it's generated 'a little interest'. That's it. A few eyebrows have been raised and nothing more. From the way the media up here are going on about it you'd think Guardiola had just taken the job.

At the end it's like a scene from home Homes Under The Hammer where the voice-over is saying "Stephen now realises the size of what he's taken on. Never, ever bid at auction without seeing the property first. "

Because the rules of engagement haven’t changed for Rangers, irrespective of who they employ. Not once in six years.
Despite their sense of entitlement, Rangers have no God-given right to be the club that challenges Celtic for titles.
They have to earn it.

But will they listen?

Steven Gerrard appointment excites me AND makes me dubious – Gordon Waddell
Rangers have no God-given right to be the one that challenges Celtic argues the Sunday Mail’s chief sports columnist.

We don’t need English-based journalists being interested in Dundee v Motherwell. From Celtic’s perspective, potential upsides could include a more lucrative TV deal and, when it comes to player recruitment, a potentially more interesting league to help entice new signings. Like everyone else, I’m highly sceptical about this appointment but there’s no doubt Rodgers v Gerrard is a more interesting narrative than Rodgers v McInnes (who he’s already defeated nine times out of nine).
