I see this appointment as a bit of a paradox. I can't see Gerrard agreeing to take the job without a good budget. But if Sevco have managed to secure funds from somewhere then why would they need to risk it on a 'name' rookie with no experience? Nothing about this makes any sense. All that to say I think this IS good news for the profile of the game in the short term. In a way it pitches teacher against pupil - it will create interest and boy will it be enjoyable when yet another new dawn goes tits up.
Re the budget. If they somehow have a share issue the gullibles will sell their wives and cars to buy if they think it will stop the ten. Estate agents all over France with chateaux to sell will be watching with interest....

This is why I'm wondering if he'll even take a competitive game. :ponder:

Anyone want to start a sweepstake before he walks sighting "Broken promises"? I'll say first week in October.
Put me down for 5th November. That's on a Monday, so they'll have been pumped that weekend and all patience will have gone. And the Huns have a poetic way of doing disasters e.g. valentines day liquidation, so it'll be "Gerrard burns bridges as sparks fly in boardroom" or some pish.

. I think if I was a sevco fan I might be quite excited about the appointment.
Aye. I bet you are.
You guys are hilarious. If a poster suggests a view that is in any way musing that they can understand why the huns are excited about this, then that makes the poster a closet hun. If you knew how much I loathe everything that they represent, and how much I would love to see them wiped off the face of the planet, then you would realise how ridiculous your reaction is, but your use of smilies and one liners is really clever, and puts me in my place.

Absolutely insane appointment. If in some bizarre way they actually did have money, why give it to a guy with no experience.

If they have no money and are wanting to build up a youth team I can see it but even then the mutants won’t do long term ambition

If Gerrard had been appointed manager of Tranmere Rovers or Macclesfield Town this summer, no one would be speculating that he must have been given assurances about budgets. More likely, folk would be saying that’s a decent first step on the managerial ladder. My guess is that Gerrard can’t believe that a club with 50,000 odd match-day attendees has offered him a crack at management and he’s jumped at it, as the alternative for him would almost definitely have been a lower league English outfit.
He would not be expected to win trophies at those clubs. He would not be charged with stopping such a massive milestone as 10-in-a-row. Moving these clubs up the table a bit might be enough to constitute success. At Ibrox he will be absolutely guaranteed to fail - unless he is given the financial backing to win the title. He knows this and I can't see him accepting a task he knows is virtually impossible.

The belief that another novice manager will solve the problems of a financial and operational basket case, without evidence of means is a wee bit hun like

Make your talking pish..respectfully.

The full thing is to sell books & King to get his name out there with the Orcs after his last 3 disasters managerially. He will get them players ..aye but the fact they have appointed an 18's manager with 9/10 months experience in a youth league to be frank..... is nonsense.

We (you as well) should be enjoying this comical spectical for what it is. Another magnificent chapter on "the journey"

Sit back and laugh like the rest of us.

I’d argue that the English lower leagues are a graveyard for wannabe managers as one bad job basically writes you off forever. Whereas, the profile of Rangers is high enough that provided it’s not a total disaster, he’ll be welcomed back down south. Warburton had a horrific final six months at Ibrox yet still managed to walk into the Nottingham Forest job. As John Barnes discovered, however, failure at Tranmere means you’ll never work in football again!
