It's pretty obvious, there's one potentially hard opponent -- Slovakian champion Spartak, the rest are semipro teams (with possible exception of Montenegrin Sutjeska), Spartak is best avoided, next probably Sutjeska, the rest are very easy.
"...the rest are very easy"

C'mon, it's us your talking about. Red Imps away looked dead easy!

Was just about to post the same as Tauriskos - that UEFA's updated page today suggested there might not be groupings this year. Then they went and updated it

Red Imps was easy. There was never any chance of us not going through.

Yeah, I clicked on the link on my post, to check if it's working, and voila, the page updated, and my whole post was made obsolete.

Alashkert put St Johnstone out on away goals in 2015, so we should pump them.
If we can’t beat teams like that we don’t deserve to be in the Champions League.

Wonder what's better: Latvians and Estonians will be in full form, they're going to be in midseason in July, while there's heat in Malta and Montenegro, where normal people have problem even breathing in shade. I say, better Latvians and Estonians, then southern countries.

What's the point in grouping them if they aren't going to be remotely regional? Could do without a trip to bastarding Armenia this early on.

Screwed by UEFA in this grouping; what else is new?

Celtic will badly want the first leg at home, since it falls between the Shamrock Rovers and Standard Liege friendlies. Otherwise, may just as well send the kids and Glenn Driscoll to Dublin, and keep the rest of the team in Austria for a few extra days.

for a 1st round thats much more problematic than usual especially the travel/regional side of it. Looking at the potential teams in group 2 would have been much better and more akin to what we are used to in this stage of qualifying. Slovakian champions would be a significant jump up from the likes of the norn irish/icelandic/gibralter team we've recently played

I can't help but think UEFA have done this to avoid the possibility of us going to Belfast again?

I'm not at that level of paranoia just yet  Just don't understand the reasoning behind it. Why not just have a straight draw between seeded and unseeded? Unless I'm missing something, I'm not sure of the benefit.

Maybe to make a more balanced draw? Unseeded teams of Northern group are on average easier than those of South and East. Possibly also to avoid some combinations out of security reasons, like Serbs vs anyone they were/are in contact with, Armenia vs Azerbaijan etc, while not saying it out loud. I think it's all 3 reasons (regional, balance, political), and you get the groupings as they're (btw even in the past the groupings were never 100% regional). Uefa doesn' t explain the groupings for years now, so it's all guessing.

How were the groupings decided? A) via something in the rules, B) an open and transparent draw or C) some grubby manoeuvre in a backroom?
