not sure where to put this

but Gdansk is holding the 2020 Europa league final

the stadium has a 41,000 capacity :nono: :nono:

once the sponsors and the fat cats get their share of the tickets how many will be left for the supporters? about 10,000 each at a push :nono: :nono:

There's always loads of tickets going for Europa League finals. Most clubs that make it don't even sell out their allocations. If there's no British or German team in the final it probably won't sell out.

Videoton became the last team to book their CL spot for next season. So we now know all the teams we might face in qualifying.

This is how the new qualifying route looks.

Champions Route of Qualifying

Celtic start in the 1st qualifying round on the 10th/11th July, and face 8 games in 8 weeks to reach the group stage of either tournament. If we're knocked out of the CL we get a 2nd chance in the EL. If we lose in the CL playoff we go straight to the EL group stage. If we lose before that we go to the next round of EL qualifying - but we can only play other teams knocked out of the CL qualifiers. So we can't pump the huns in the EL qualifiers.

How things look for each of the qualifying rounds, based on the seeds progressing

QR1

Olimpija Ljubljana are likely to be the toughest tie here - having beaten Maribor to the Slovenian title. But if this round is regionalised then we'll avoid them.

QR2

Some teams in here who could cause problems - Rosenborg, Midtjylland, Red Star, Hapoel, Cluj.

QR3

And tougher still. Don't particularly fancy AEK at this stage. Or Zagreb.

Playoff

Some of those names are familiar. #letfootballwin.

As previously said, each draw for the qualifiers is made before the previous round completes. If an unseeded team wins a tie then the team takes on the coefficient of the team they beat, and are treated as a seeded team for the next round.

The EL qualifers could also be strange. We would be guaranteed seeded for the first EL round we play in, but then unseeded for the rest. It's a weird weird system.

If we make the group stage we are almost certain to be Pot 4 in the CL (we'd need 6 of Salzburg, Ludogorets, PSV, Basel, Ajax, Benfica & Dynamo Kyiv to be knocked out to make Pot 3). In the EL we would probably be comfortable in Pot 2, barring an exodus of the teams listed above. Maybe even Pot 1 with the right qualifying results.

Sorry for nitpicking, but this "mistake" is so widely used. The club is commonly called Dinamo, and Dinamo Zagreb in longer version if there's a chance of mistaking it with some other Easteuropean Dinamo. There's an actual club called Zagreb, traditionally the second strongest club in the city. It's like calling ManUtd just Manchester, a common thing in my parts of world before the oil money entered EPL.

A general observation, 1rd Round is harder than I expected, already at this stage you can meet professional sides (like champions of Slovakia, Slovenia, Macedonia), here's to hope that the regionalization will be implemented and Celtic gets some semi-pro/amateur sides from Northern/Western Europe.

One of the positives I can see is that the unseeded team takes the place of the seeded team if they're knocked out. Not every single seeded team is gonna get through all their games. I don't think, for a second, that last round is gonna be how it's listed in the post above. Someone will get upset by an unseeded team and that should make our job easier, provided we do our job.

Thanks for the info, mate.

Dinamo Bucharest are known locally as just Dinamo so I can see why the mistake persists

Moravcik67 - sterling work! Cheers.

The whole system of qualifying just gives me the fear. Very few easy games in Europe, every one a banana skin. For us even a five goal first leg win is no guarantee of a relaxing second leg!

However, where's the CL final next season? With two or three new quality players and a bit of luck....

The team from Croatia's Sunday name is GNK Dinamo Zagreb as they claim the history and lineage of disbanded Nazi/NDH era clubs formed before Dinamo were in 1945, and celebrated their centenary in 2011, which was 100 years from the formation of Grandanski Zagreb.
