I would like to thank you for your Twitter feed as to what all the implication of the changes may mean. Concise, easy to understand and to the point.

I would probably have been lost in getting to understand it all.

Many thanks, class work.

Noted from the rule book that as of the groups we will be using goal line tech.
We nor any other Scottish club has goal line technology installed. Does that mean we will have to get it installed if we reach the group stages. And if we don’t qualify for a few years after that we will be sitting on a white elephant as it can’t be used domestically
UEFA will install it for us and take it away after each game. They also used to do the same with their demanded spec of LED advertising boards but from this season they will now charge teams to rent them if they don’t meet the standard so I’m guessing for this rule cycle through to 2021 it’ll be a case of clubs getting it short term free of use but long term we may need to invest in it.

Might as well just get our own system...then add the goalline replays to those 'different angle' highlights packages ;)

Cheers for all the hard work Moravcik67. Been enjoying following this thread.

When's the draw for the first (and second?) rounds?

I wouldn't call the extra game a glorified pre-season friendly. Quite the opposite. We now face 3 rounds containing some tough teams, instead of just 2. The 1st round is the equivalent of where we entered the tournament in previous years, but after that it's considerably tougher. For example, based on the last time I checked, we could face the following

2nd Round - Malmo, Red Star Belgrade, Rosenborg, Brondby, Hapoel Be'er Sheva

3rd Round - Astana, BATE, Dinamo Zagreb, AEK Athens

Playoff - Steau Bucharest, APOEL, Young Boys, Legia Warsaw.

Of course it depends on the draw, and who gets knocked out along the way. And also how UEFA handle draws being made before the previous round completes. But the potential is there for 3 tough ties. And that's as a seeded team.
I'm talking about the 1st qualifier.
But up until this year we only had two 'tough' ties following the typically easy first tie. We now have three of those in addition to the Linfield/Red Imps/Whoever it might be.

All four ties should still be winnable but to suggest it hasn't gotten tougher with the addition of this extra round of qualifying is ridiculous.
Can you read. Take game 2,3 and 4 out yer heid.

I'm talking about the 1st qualifier and folk moaning about that.

That’s not true. You said:

“There really isn't much of a downfall to the 4th qualifier and this myth should be binned.”

The additional 4th qualifier is huge though. We used to have one easy round and two tough rounds. Now we have one easy round and three tough rounds. This is significantly more challenging than the previous set up.

Anyone else get the distinct feeling that UEFA just make this up as they go along? It sounds absolutely mental!
The problem is that they start with the outcome they want - more teams from the 'big' leagues and fewer from the 'small' leagues in the UCL and then they "design" the process around that objective. This is why you get this tortorous and confused pish rather than something that makes sense.

Exactly. Work back from what has been demanded by Karl-Heinz & Co.

No matter how many qualifiers it adds. No matter how many genuinely sizeable clubs are likely to be playing competitive qualifiers before the World Cup has even ended. Player burn out? What's that?

Incidentally, one of the things this restructure was intended to achieve was the greater chance of inclusion of Milan and/or Inter into the CL proper, as their absence was said to be damaging the prospects of greater media rights values for the CL.

Inter are fifth, three points below Lazio with a game left, which just happens to be at Lazio. A home win or draw will see them out of the CL for the umpteenth season in a row. Milan are sixth and can get no higher. :lmao:

I just cant understand how qualifying 2 years in a row and finishing third in our group this year and winning 1 away CL game and a EL game yet our reward is an extra round talk about UEFA being money grabbing rats

In one month's time the euro qualifier's start
First games in CL and EL are last few days in June, that's just preliminary rounds.

We start playing 10/11 of July.
Crusaders away?

The number of rounds we play is determined by the overall performance of all Scottish clubs, not just our own.

I clarified it by saying I meant the 1st qualifier of 4 as opposed to the extra 'tough round'.

It was in repsonse to those complaining about having to play the 1st qualifier so early.

All 26 automatic group places now filled. There are 22 teams who would be ranked above us, 4 ranked below. It means that if any 2 of the teams who come through qualifying are ranked above us then we'll be Pot 4 again - should we reach the group stage ourselves of course. In short, to make Pot 3 we'd need 6 of PSV, Ludogorets, Salzburg, Dynamo Kyiv, Ajax, Basel and Benfica to be eliminated in qualifying. Pot 4 it is then. If we get there. :ph43r:

On the back of the great news that Livingstone are making it 3 plastic pitches out of 12 in our own league, can we assume that maybe the first 3 away qualifiers, if we get that far, will be played on the same surfaces as the Red Imps farce last year?
Everyone under 40 will tell you 4G is the future, of course :(

Moravcik, first, great work. Any thoughts/news/hints on regionalization? The draw is done on the same day for 2 rounds, so probably it will be harder to do the regionalization, they may just do "groups" on equal strength if at all, IMO.

All leagues are done, except Hungarian, Danish and Slovenian, where we are still waiting for the entrants. My Olimpija is just 2 games and 4 points away for being champions after we won 3-2 Maribor away this Saturday. We'll be unseeded throughout, a chance of meeting each other is there, I'd rather avoid it, though.
