doesn't necessarily mean Lennon won't be Griffiths' manager soon. :ph43r:
The implication being that we are going to sell/loan one of our best strikers to a direct rival after we have, presumably, sold Dembele?

Really? Still...?

:coffee:
A lot depends on Rodgers and his ambitions for Celtic. LG could be spending a lot of time on the bench again next season. He won’t want or like that if it happens. Could see him going on loan to Hibs if that were to happen.

I think Griffiths will be sensible enough to know that he may always be playing back up to another signing that we intend to market. He’s not stupid enough to think he will get permanent Center stage if we have a potentially huge asset like Dembele on our hands, if anything he will know that after Celtic it will be a step down.

He’ll remain a hugely important player for us for a wee while yet.

brendans comments the other day seemed to suggest he was happy for griffiths and get some games

Quoting limited to 3 levels deephttps://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/leigh-griffiths
Delighted he wants to stay.
hmm, i am less enthusiastic reading this. i like Leigh - he is a good player but 2 1/2 years left on contract and the player is instigating this would suggest that he wants a pay rise or to force someone's hand.
Of course, i might just be worrying about nothing.
Must be another wean on the way. Nappies aren’t cheap.

All of the signs point towards Griffiths not being happy about being number 2 - and maybe even number 3 next season.

Well, there was his own comments one page back. Not to mention he's had to play second fiddle to Dembele (whether the big man's been on form or not) for the guts of two seasons now, and still wants to remain at the club.

Griffiths said: “My representatives are working behind the scenes to try and get me a new deal.

“It is early stages now, but hopefully we can get it done sooner rather than later.

“I have another two and a half years left but why would you want to go anywhere else? You’re playing at a top club with a top manager in front of 50,000 or 60,000 every other week.

“There’s no reason to go anywhere. You have Champions League football every season.

“It’s hard to get there now, but when you do get there, those are memorable nights.

“Hopefully it we can come to an agreement, I’ll not be far off Broony."

Hardly the words of a guy who's 'not happy'.

He's been great for us over the course of his time here, and I hope he remains at Celtic for as long that continues. There's too many good (and some not so good) players in this squad that have no interest in being Celtic players for the long term. Good to see the likes of Griffiths and Tierney going on record about their desire to be a part of the club for years to come.

Yes , but for some people logical thinking goes out the window with LG.

Great player and I hope he sticks around for the ten because we will need him.

Absolutely no chance of Leigh Griffiths being at Hibs on loan next season.

maybe not Hibs, but if he's not getting game time, he won't be happy, especially with a European Championship qualifying group starting.
I find it interesting that the interview says it's his agent who's looking for a new deal and not the Club.
We'll see. He's a good striker who won't be happy if BR doesn't see him as first choice after Moussa is sold.

Griffiths is quite smart with his comments. He's made it clear that if he is punted that it wasn't his decision.

He had a public argument with the manager when he got subbed. He wants to be number 1 - that isn't a criticism of him. I don't think he will be happy to sit and be number 2 striker at Celtic.

I think maybe he needs the security of a long term contract though.

'Public argument' is a bit much. It was pathetic from Griff at the time and was correctly dealt with swiftly and professionally by Rodgers. We've seen no sign of it since. We did see them have a big cuddle on the pitch today, right enough.

Manager publicly praises him and highlights his importance a few weeks back. Player publicly states he wants to stay and loves everything about the club. Conclusion: Ah he's unhappy, he'll be away to Hibs next year.

He should start next Sunday.
No chance. Against anyone else there might have been a case for it but Dembele's record vs the Hun is too good not to play him.

Games like today are why it's good to have Griffiths in the squad. I didn't think he played particularly well when he came on but he got the goal we needed and he's always got that in him. I'd give him a new contract.

Griffiths is our only free-kick taker outside the box where I really believe there's a chance of a goal.
In my opinion he should have been on from the start and replaced when running out of steam.

Next week might be one for Griff to come in from the bench. It’s difficult to leave Dembele out of the Old Firm games and we won’t play 2 up front.

Should start next week, Dembele isn't doing it at present, missing chances Griffiths would tuck away.

Dembele will probably start but l think Griffiths has earned the right.

At least when he goes to Hibs on loan he will have that header to look back on.
