Seems a level-headed chap, and is obviously well chuffed to be at Celtic.

Hopefully a decent set piece taker. Our corners are as much of a weakness as our defending at the moment

How exactly do these type of deals work?

We've signed the boy - so presumably he's just earned a signing-on fee and a massive increase in wages? But we've also loaned him straight back to St Mirren. Will St Mirren continue to pay him his current rate of wages? Or will we now pay his wages (perhaps minus whatever St Mirren are currently paying him - they'll pay the rest?). Would seem strange if he was now earning much more for doing the same thing, playing with the same colleagues, playing in the same side. And it also begs the question why are we paying wages (if any at this end?) for a player who isn't playing for us? What if he picked up a serious injury? I remember we pulled out of the signing of Jaroslaw Fojut after we'd signed him on a pre-contract Bosman and he got injured. But this sort of deal is different.

These are all genuine questions by the way. I'm not having a dig at the transfer or the idea of loaning him back - just interested in how the logistics of these sort of deals work?
To me it looks like he had lots of options, and he’s used to ensure that St. Mirren get a decent fee for him. Some ex-Buddies chairmen was saying that this was the case on Twitter. He could’ve went pre-contract but he’s made sure his current club have did alright out of the deal, and that he can stay to help them get promoted. Shows he’s a good guy to me.

Also what we did to Fojut was scandalous. Poor guy.

not sure about ex-chairman, but Tony Fitzpatrick definitely confirmed so on Twitter

i'm not so sure. he clearly has talent and technique and his attitude and mentality seems spot on (not to mention wanting to prove early doubters wrong). coupled with BR's coaching/development could see this boy reach the heights. purely a hunch, but i've got a feeling this transfer is going to work out well.

Dennis Connaghan is the last one that springs to mind. Early 70s though.
