Maybe he'd have waited until the summer and someone else would have jumped in and secured his services, 300k secures it for us

If, as assumed, this lad is going back to St. Mirren then I don't see the logic in us giving them £300k when his contract is up. Surely the development fee we would have to give them would be a lot less?
I think it is called doing the right thing?
For who? If this lad is not going to be joining us until the summer then why are we paying for him to play for St. Mirren when we could get him for free and probably a far lower development fee?
If we're looking at him then teams with similar budgets will be too. He wouldn't be the first Scottish player tempted by relatively good money in the English lower leagues. If people behind the scenes at Celtic think he's good enough then why not sign him for a fairly trivial fee?

And continues to develop and get game time while knowing what his next step up is

He would continue to get game time and still know what his next step is if he signed a pre contract with us. I can only guess that part of him agreeing to join us was if we paid a fee to them. Maybe he would do that to whichever club wanted him. I did see quotes the other day supposedly from him saying he was very grateful to St. Mirren for giving him a chance to build his career again after the hun let him go so maybe he is trying to repay them.

Celtic target Lewis Morgan set to be unveiled at the Hoops on THURSDAY after signing off at St Mirren with a goal against rivals Morton

The youngster will undergo a medical for Brendan Rodgers' side tomorrow and is expected to return to Paisley on loan once his deal is complete

CELTIC-BOUND Lewis Morgan last night signed off as a St Mirren player with a goal against Morton.

But while it’s believed the attacker, 21, will be unveiled as a Hoops recruit on Thursday, he is expected to be loaned back to the Paisley club for the rest of the season.

Morgan scored for Jack Ross’ Championship leaders in the 1-1 draw at Cappielow.

It was his 13th goal of the season and his third in two games.

Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers has long been an admirer of the £300,000-valued ace and is happy to let him remain a key man for Saints this term.

Morgan could have a medical for the champions on Wednesday.

BR seems to be a fan of Jack Ross. He probably feels it’s a good idea to forge a solid relationship with Ross, and St Mirren, as it’s somewhere we could send our better youngsters on loan in the future. If they unearth anymore good players they might be willing to give us first refusal having had a previous positive experience.

Signing Morgan just now also means he can train with our first team a couple of times a week. That means we get a better idea of how he’s progressing than if we wait until July to bring him in.

Eboue going out on loan, only reason he hasn’t being playing much is because of Brown’s form. Bit worrying if brown picks up an injury though, suppose Bitton can fill in if needed

Medical this morning, interesting to see if he does go back or if we've paid a little extra to get him on board just now.

I think we should be all over these type of deals.
Always thought we should've gone for McGinn when OOC at St Mirren, before Hibs took him - a no brainer.
Always going to make some sort of profit & maybe pull a diamond out the mud.
£300k is nothing & he's been very well scouted.

It's a low risk investment. If it doesn't work out and we sell on it won't be a great loss. Nothing much to lose.

Happy with this, although I still think he could have made an impact for us.

That said, no complaints over him going back on loan if it was a deal breaker.

Exactly. Should be hoovering up like Chelsea etc, but on a relative financial idea obviously. Loan them out to everyone and their dug in the top of League 1, bottom of Championship, etc. Least we'll do is make the money back.
