No idea he existed until last week but fingers crossed he's a pacy experienced ball-playing sea-dog. I was going to say I hope he's the glue for our back line but Jozo and Dedryck look like they've been on the glue, am I right.
You should have left that for some poor soul.

Having read a good bit about him his strength is that he’s a good leader
Then he's exactly what we need. Plus can take a bit of weight off KT.

Not sure about that. We’ll see. He could well turn out to be good. I’m underwhelmed though and can’t help feeling he’s a replacement for Erik as cover. I still don’t believe we’ve seen much of him and we’re buying him as cover. Having read a good bit about him his strength is that he’s a good leader but he’s very slow apparently. He’s not going to get any quicker at the age of 32.
I'll settle for a slow carrot that knows what he's doing.

A guy who spends his career in Germany and Italy will cope fine with us.

Never heard of him, but good news that we're not signing a project player. I assume/hope he's decent given his experience.

Players we signed after the age of 32 and had an Indian summer with us...

Lubo Moravcik
Pat Stanton
Even Dion Dublin did OK

Just because we occasionally sign a bit of experience, doesn't mean they are all crap, past it or coming to wind down on decent wages.

If we get 2-3 solid seasons out of this guy, his experience could be critical.

We're a young team and sign with future transfer fees in mind, but the downside is that this leaves us relatively short of experience in critical games.

Even Van Dyk had a howler against Karagandy a few years ago. Simply due to lack of experience, not lack of ability.

This guy won't be featuring in a best ever Celtic team I'll wager, but I doubt if he'll disgrace himself either.

I'm happy with this one.

Dublin was shampooe  Stan Varga had a better scoring record than him.

He's got pedigree, not the sort of player that will excite many but I think this is a good piece of business. I'd rather we were after young CB's from Holland or Belgium but for a January transfer this makes sense.

Brown and Lustig aside, we have a pretty young team, particularly in the defence. A few experienced heads in there will do a lot of good.

I've never seen the guy play to my knowledge. However I'm still willing to bet he's better than what we have at the moment. Hopefully his experience will make us stronger as a unit as neither Gordon, Boyata or Jozo are "leaders".

Hopefully he's the first of a few new additions in this window.

This is a key point for me. We need a guy to organise things at the back and do a bit of shouting and cajoling. Apart from organising defensive walls, I rarely see/hear Gordon shouting at the guys in front of him - even when they make a howler. That would be ok if the centre-halves were vociferous enough themselves but they also seem fairly timid.

Hopefully Marvin can come in and take on a leadership role and steady the ship until we get a more long-term solution at the back but, at 32, you'd like to think there's a few years in him - especially if he hasn't played much in recent years and there isn't much mileage on the clock.

What's been increasingly obvious these last few months is that we lack a real leader in the back line who will get them organised. Each of our centre backs have strengths but look like they would benefit from being along side a more experienced player who they can learn from. i had hoped they would get that from Kolo on the practice pitch, but clearly not. If this guy can bring that to the team then it's good enough for me.

Surely Toure would be the most appropriate example?

We need defenders so happy we are getting some experience in, although we kept hearing during our CL woes that the seasons objective is the Europa League - so its puzzling that we then sign a player who can't play in it.

Hopefully this means there is another one coming in.

Toure played in nine Premiership matches for Celtic.

His experience was vital in that Champions League qualification campaign, and the end result and his role in it made the salary outlay worthwhile.

But he played in three league matches after the 4-3 win at Motherwell last December, with a total of 46 minutes played. He was done.

For the fee outlay on Compper alone, hopefully he is not done, and we would hopefully see him play many more games.

Could be the makings of a Marvin Compper song in that... :hmmm:

Go Compper. Go Compper.
When money's tight you'll be alright with Marv Compper.
When your fans are frantic, he's quite fantastic.
Nothing quite compares to Marv Compper.

PL's probably placing an order for the merchandise at this very minute.
