Welcome to Celtic Marv. Hopefully he’ll be a bit like Marc Reiper for us. Solid and a proper leader.

“Rodgers is purposeful and has hierarchies in the team"
Anyone any idea what this might mean? Any German-speaking posters on? A little lost in translation?

My guess is he wants more leaders & has told compper he's going to be one. It reminds me of the interview Lustig gave where he mentioned that BR purposefully sat him between two of the younger players in the dressing room so they could feed off his experience. An example of his man management instead of letting cliques develop which hinder learning.
There aren't enough Lustigs in the dressing room (or anywhere, really).

Commons comments werent great there. No a huge fan of the guy. Did you ever hear about a guy called Lubo, who was really really old when we signed him Kris?
A guy with his experience, who clearly looks after himself, ( see breakfast at Brendan’s ), is a no brainier for me.
I’m fed up with Commons now as well.

Commons is well placed to understand how someone in their early thirties could fail to get on in a BR side.

Commons bumping his gums saying he is too old
From the BBC Spoiler: click to toggle Former Celtic midfielder Kris Commons has questioned the wisdom of the club signing German defender Marvin Compper.
The 32-year-old centre-back will join the Scottish champions in early January after signing a two-and-a-half year deal to move from Red Bull Leipzig.
But Compper will be ineligible for Celtic's Europa League tie against Zenit St Petersburg in February, having played in this year's Champions League.
"I find it strange Celtic have signed a defender who is 32," said Commons.
"When they are over 30, there are a few doubts in terms of 'how long have they got?' and their fitness levels. Is he going to be sharp enough? He is a big boy.
"He is not able to play in the Europa League, and I think that is where they need him. Go and get a centre-half who can take you to the next level.
"Hearts really put the fear into the Celtic back four last Sunday and it was the sort of performance that European teams do to Celtic, putting them under pressure.
"They played in all the wrong areas, and individual mistakes cost them, especially in central defence.
"There was evidence that a centre-half needs to come in, not necessary to play, but to put pressure on the players there. Dedryck Boyata, Jozo Simunovic, Erik Sviatchenko - they must be thinking 'I need to up my game and concentrate on what I am doing, with and without the ball'.
Dedryck Boyata in action for Celtic against Hearts Dedryck Boyata has been a mainstay for Celtic, but enters the final year of his contract this summer "Celtic need an experienced defender for European competition, but this guy coming in is not eligible to play in Europe. And he is 32. How long is he going to play? Three years? If he doesn't hit the ground running, they are going to be looking for a new centre-half in the summer.
"I think they need to go for a player who is playing at a good level of football, who is between 25 and 28, that has good experience and knows what the club is all about. He can play in Europe and slot straight into the team. Compper is 32, going on 33, so there has got to be a slight risk there."
Manager Brendan Rodgers said on Thursday that he hopes to add "one or two more" new players in time for Celtic's warm-weather training camp starting on 6 January, when Compper will join up with the squad.
BBC Scotland understands Rodgers may try to sign a second centre-half, with Boyata, 27, entering the final year of his contract in the summer, and no guarantee the Belgian will sign a new deal.
Simunovic, 23, signed a new deal in September, but there has been speculation that Celtic could let Sviatchenko, 32, leave in January.
"Every single transfer is a gamble, but you try to eliminate the gamble," Commons told BBC Sportsound.
"Who knows, Compper might be superb in the next three years and be an unbelievable signing.
"But Celtic need a centre-half for European football, someone who is going to get you through these next two ties [against Zenit].
"They may well bring in another centre-half, but you can't keep four or five international, fit centre-halves happy. It is impossible. So it looks like one or two might be leaving." Still bitter that Brendan sussed out the fat mess that you are as soon as he walked through the door Kris?

With respect I think that is a little unfair - in my opinion Commons was a good servant to the club and I certainly liked him. When I think of a ‘fat mess’ then I think Derek Johnstone or Eric Pickles. The piece reads a bit negative but the obvious comment about ineligibility for EL is valid. Again, just my opinion boss and no offence intended in expressing it.

NEW Celtic signing Marvin Compper has revealed he decided to sign for the Hoops because he was so impressed with Brendan Rodgers’ attention to detail during a breakfast meeting.
The Parkhead side splashed out £1 million on the 32-year-old defender from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.
And Compper revealed Rodgers persuaded him to sign for Celtic after breakfast at his house, after he knocked back offers from other German clubs, with Hoops head of recruitment, Lee Congerton, influential in the deal.
He said: “Brendan Rodgers invited me to his home for breakfast.
“There was a wonderful family atmosphere.
“There was cereal, fruit and lactose-free dairy products – because he had previously inquired about my dietary habits.
Compper watched Celtic’s win over Partick Thistle from the stands
“Rodgers is purposeful and has hierarchies in the team. I like that.
“Three weeks ago I heard about the interest.
“And I was amazed and proud that I was on the list of such a big club.
“Lee Congerton also played a big role.
“He wanted to bring me to Hamburg under sporting director Frank Arnesen five years ago.
“There was contact with another Bundesliga club, but Celtic was the first choice.
“Finances never had any influence on me – I would never have gone to China.
“At Fiorentina, I once reached a Cup Final and we were runners-up in the league with RB Leipzig.
“But I have never won any titles in my career and that’s why I came to Celtic. I will work hard to win the league.
“I’ll fly to Glasgow next week to look at houses and my family are planning to move in March.”
Who needs succulent lamb when you have "lactose-free dairy products"?

So it looks like one or two might be leaving."
Still bitter that Brendan sussed out the fat mess that you are as soon as he walked through the door Kris? 😂😂😂

If Compper lasts the length of his contract he will be younger than Alves was when he signed last summer...what were Kris’ considered thoughts on that signing ..?? Tbf, Alves instantly became the best player in Scotland when he signed for them.

Alves is probably the slowest player in Scotland. He's probably not anywhere near the slowest....just the least inclined to break sweat at any point during a game to justify his hefty wage packet

If Compper lasts the length of his contract he will be younger than Alves was when he signed last summer...what were Kris’ considered thoughts on that signing ..?? TBF it's probably just Commons viewing it through the lens of self justification - "if Rodgers thought I was surplus to requirements at 32 then why is he even considering this guy at the same age????"
We all do things like that to rationalise/justify things that didn't work out for us rather than admit to some sort of failing when something doesn't work out or comes to a disappointing end - in this case the obvious elephant in the room Kris is failing to recognise is that he wouldn't have been the right player for Rodgers at 22 never mind 32.
