MARVIN COMPPER will arrive in Glasgow today to seal his £1million move to Celtic.

The German defender, 32, was given the go-ahead to quit Red Bull Leipzig after crunch talks yesterday.

Compper will now jet into Scotland to put the finishing touches on a contract that will run until at least 2020.

Brendan Rodgers had been scouring Europe for an experienced central defender and moved quickly to tie up the former Germany cap.

Compper also had a spell in Serie A with Fiorentina, and remained a major part of the Leipzig squad despite losing his first-team place.

But Red Bull sporting director Ralf Rangnick refused to stand in his way after Celtic expressed their interest. Compper visited Glasgow last week and was impressed by the plans of Hoops boss Rodgers.

Barring any hitches, he will become a Celtic player in the next 24 hours — and will meet up with his new team-mates in Dubai on January 6.

Compper would not be eligible for the Hoops’ Europa League clash with Zenit St Petersburg however, as Leipzig are also in the last 32.

as Bobby Peru so eloquently put it, Go Comperr.

I like the sound of it (never heard of the guy never mind seen him play).

But I'm disappointed we're signing a guy who's cup tied for the Zenit ties. Seems silly.

Early signing, experienced DF who can cover at LB, good stuff, on to the next one.

A centre half who can cover at left back and is comfortable with the ball at his feet. Potentially a very good signing. Still one defender short though I feel.

Experienced centre back who can cover at left back. Exactly what we need.

Love the fact he's jetting in as well.

Good signing on the face of it. Experienced, only lost his place to yon Wonderkid, and clearly still got the desire to be playing as well as being a handsome big bastard to boot.

We've had massive injury problems at the back this season so hopefully this really helps solidify things. Shame we can't use him in Europe though.

Not sure about that. We’ll see. He could well turn out to be good. I’m underwhelmed though and can’t help feeling he’s a replacement for Erik as cover. I still don’t believe we’ve seen much of him and we’re buying him as cover. Having read a good bit about him his strength is that he’s a good leader but he’s very slow apparently. He’s not going to get any quicker at the age of 32.

No idea he existed until last week but fingers crossed he's a pacy experienced ball-playing sea-dog. I was going to say I hope he's the glue for our back line but Jozo and Dedryck look like they've been on the glue, am I right.
