If he's only 31 he shouldn't be done but it seems as if he is. Perhaps injuries have taken their toll. After the WC he should go back to Scandinavia and see out his playing days in a more relaxed environment. He's been a good servant to the club.

Finished. Has been for months.

Replacement needed in either Gamboa/Ralston until summer.

Yeah, really poor. His getting caught napping and/or ball-watching at the far post is a major weakness in the team now and he offers little going forward.

Some contrast between our right-back and Zenit's - the even older Ivanovic, who ran the show for them. Admittedly, always a better player anyway but it really showed last night.

Can't run, can't cross, panics in his own half, doesn't half a left foot and constantly switches off at the back post. A liability.

That's damning.

Thanks and goodbye.
TBF he was playing on the right of a three. I'd like to see the same graphic from Ajers side.
There isn't a graphic from Ajer's side - it's a graphic of the chances made against us as a team and they're all down the one side

He was outstanding for Sweden in the playoffs.

If he isn't a regular starter then he can still do a job.

He was pretty poor in the second leg and lucky not to give away a penalty. Never saw the first leg

He played very well in the second leg. Defended for his life.

He can be a good squad player for us. For maybe another season. He should not be an automatic starter.

A great servant to the club but he’s done. Take him out the limelight before his reputation is completely destroyed
exactly my sentiments. It's time to move on.

Aye, this.
It has been time to move on from him for quite a while - This lack of awareness at the back post has more or less always been there - His powers of recovery have also been suspect and now they are non existent -The strong points in his game still made him a good player - The strong points don't exist anymore - Remember his game against the Zombies before the New Year - It was sheer wtf??? His legs are gone and he is done.

Like dropping De Vries it will be interesting to see what Rodgers does about them - If he sticks with them and it goes breests up at Pittodrie and at The Midden because of them the flak from last night will seem like a walk in the park.

Right now he's an utter liability who spreads panic through the rest of the team. I'm starting to actively dislike him, which is a shame - as pointed out, he doesn't pick himself and he's been a cracking player for us at times.
Great summary. He looks done and should be dropped until he either rediscovers his mojo or is sold/released. An amateur team would know to target him ffs

I’m hoping Brendan approaches the Lustig dilemma without any sort of sentimentality. The guy isn’t deserving of a place in our team right now. He’s a weak link in the side and the opposition target him. I’m sure the manager wants to see him go to the World Cup but we shouldn’t be sacrificing the well being of the team by persisting with someone who, currently, can’t cut it.

.There is no case for the defence. Often wondered why Lustig held his place in the Swedish team. He occasionally shines at CP with an assist or a goal but he cannot defend. Watching him even when off the ball is torture, he will not mark his opponent, he stands off him. Consequenly he gets skinned by fast opponents - they target him! Need I mention Neymar? He doesn't look confident, against Zenit he repeatedly made over deliberate 10 yard passes almost sideways to Forrest (even when Forrest was marked). His second move is a 20 yarder through the middle to nobody and finally, back to the goalie. He looks frightened of the ball and desperate to get rid of it. Physically he is lacking, not 'big' enough with none of the footwork, speed or raiding ability of Keiran who is also slightly built.
Contrast Ivanovich of Zenit, older, FAR more powerful and dominating. Cannot see Lustig improving, he is too old.
Sorry he will have to go. Byeraway the Henry boy is nowhere near European class, possibly not even Celtic class. His positional sense is poor and he suffers from having players around him who cannot really help .No point in looking at Simunovic , he might have been good when younger but has lost something. Maybe injured too often
Give me the tried and tested defender any day, experienced, strong and can man mark effectively.Thats sometimes alll that is needed

wow...where to start?

Neymar? One of the best attackers in World football, so that's a bit unfair. Neymar has roasted/will roast far better players than Lustig.

Lustig is 6' 3" , Tierney is built like the side of a house.

Simunovic is barely 23 . What has he lost exactly?

So you want tried and tested, but Sweden's main right back for the last ten years or so isn't what you mean?

apart from that, I agree with your post.
