I think he provides a good counter balance to Tierney as we tend to play asymmetrically with KT operating as an almost auxiliary winger against inferior opposition. I think he has more to offer Celtic yet.

He's been one of our better players since he's been here.....there was a time, a year or so after he joined, where it looked as if he was going to be immense, world class even...but he never quite reached that level - a number of nagging injuries probably didn't help. Overall though an excellent player in his time here. We should replace if an upgrade becomes available, but that applies to every member of the squad

. He has been a huge success however you want to measure it.
That's about it. Totally correct.
Likewise. And I hope he's here for many a year to come.

I wasn't criticising him, just pointing out he's never been our best player which, as FB alluded to, is very difficult for a defender to be.

Its an interesting and very valid point tbf - Even in the days of Shaw McNair and Dodds I would bet the best Celtic player would generally have been regarded as Jimmy Quinn or Jimmy McMenemy = Following them it would be the likes of Patsy Gallacher.Jimmy McGrory, Jimmy Delaney and Malcolm McDonald - 1950's the likes of Tully and Fernie would generally have got the nod ahead of say Bobby Evans- Lions it is perceived for the most part as Jinky (albeit those that saw them regularly and The Lions themselves to a man say Bobby Murdoch) then Dalglish,Paul McStay,Henrik and so on - Daniel Fergus :worthy: :worthy: :worthy: is the main exception that comes to mind.

Probably the fact that folk think (subliminally perhaps) that goals scored win games rather than the prevention of goals so the goalscorer or goalmaker is always uppermost in fans' thinking when it comes to "best" players. There are exceptions as you have pointed out.

Living abroad I only see games on TV but was back for the 5-0 Astana. What I was impressed with was his brilliant positional sense (IMO) and ability to see the through ball and intercept them which makes up a lot for lack of pace.

My good lady has her own nicknames for some of our players i.e. Kieran Tierney is "Cluggy", James Forrest is "Shooders", Patrick Roberts is "the wee boy" and Mikael Lustig is "The Porn Star". She reckons that, with his moustache he looks like a 70's porn star

I am the opposite to a certain extent - I know his legs are going and he struggles to get back which is why he is curtailing the runs upfront a bit(more and more we are utilising Tierney for that) but for me his positional sense in relation to backpost awareness is one of his biggest faults and I still don't have a clue wtf that carry on at McGinn's hit was about but it sure as hell wasn't an attempt at a block.

They keep picking him for Sweden, a not too shabby team by international standards.

And so they should if he is the best they have available - Most people still rate him but can see he is not the regular 8/10 nearly every game he once was at his best with Celtic.

I think this is one of the reasons we've kept him. His international place has never been in jeopardy playing in Scotland. I also think he has been a fantastic signing and he has really bought into the club and delivered for us.

In saying that we should be grooming his long term successor, is that Ralston who knows?
