Some amount of absolute nonsense on here tonight. One bad game and we should put him out to pasture apparently. Should we do the same with Brown, who was far more culpable? I've no fear watching him play in the 6 group stage games whatsoever.
We're doing away with Brown as well. Gordon too.

Surprised KT and BR aren't gonners as well

Pish tonight. Keep him as cover for the centre back and RB but otherwise he is done. Given his experience he looked lost at times and way off the pace. Thanks for past efforts but no way should he be first choice going forward.

I don't think he's done but his defending for the 4th goal was amateurish. He clearly lost the plot in the second half and wasn't alone.

I'll say it again, he was the best defender on the pitch one week ago.

Some amount of crap posted about our players

I disagree with that. He was right in trying to make sure he was blocking out the cutback as he was entitled to expect his keeper to deal with any shot from that angle. Gordon carries the full can for that one.

Both FB's were playing very wide and didn't tuck in when required. I actually think they were playing to instructions as both did same thing. I imagine BR thought there most dangerous players were on the wing and he thought central midfielders would track runners. There wingers made some decent runs and caught us with too few in central defense till we switched to three at back. Thought Lustig on the whole helped steady ship as part of back three.

Fair enough but there's a difference between cutting off the angle for the cut back and letting the attacker directly attack the near post. But, aye, Gordon was at fault too.

I agree with you Stevie. It was a bad performance overall (first goal and general decision making) but he's a right to expect a professional gk to protect his near post at an acute angle. Ironically it's his general decision making and passion that normally make him an asset. He's allowed an off day. I'm sure he'll be disappointed and will want to make amends.

Surely he has to lose his place to Ralston if this continues? Ralston looked like the old pro when he came on, whereas Mikel was horrendous, though far from being the only one.
what game did you watch?
I'm increasingly concerned that Lustig has dropped a level. His attacking play has been suspect for a while - his crossing is woeful and I think his legs are going - but you could always count on him in defence. If he loses that too, he needs dropping. Ralston will either step up to add to his 3 senior appearances, or he won't. You can't judge him on getting thrown on as a wingback during that headless spell anymore than you can judge Ajer for it. Senior players would have and did struggle in those circumstances. Mikael needs to feel someone breathing down his neck and Ralston will only improve with experience.

He did slip a bit as well at the 4th. Still not great defending.

He wasn't right to try and block the cutback. He absolutely has to go to the guy who's running in on goal, every defender on the planet knows that. As does Lustig, which is why he was all over the place trying to change direction at the last second. He had a brain fart, along with the rest of the defence over that period.

Not to say that Gordon wasn't also to blame of course, but Lustig should have closed the attacker down.

You had KT and ML playing with two inexperienced central defenders so they are both doing their own job while watching them and trying to cover for them when needed and CG was also on edge because he knew he couldn't rely on or trust those two so if anyone should be blamed it is Brendan for not signing a proper replacement in time, he knew he needed cover but decided not act on it.

He knows what needs doing and he will now have more funds to buy in what is needed so this next week we should see players coming and going.

The Swedes are well confident, so the 2-1 Bulgaria score is not at all according to plan
