I've been critical of his defending but I don't think he put a foot wrong last night. Doesn't offer a huge amount going forward but that's life. It's just not a part of his game to rampage forward, get a half a yard on a defender and whip a cross in.

In the long term we need to think about a new right back but it's not a priority right now.

Thought he was excellent last night especially when we needed him to be in the first half. Agree that he isn't as mobile in moving further forward but to be fair we did keep moving to a back three at times.

Anybody with an ounce of footballing sense can see the balance in our team.

We predominantly use KT as the attacking fullback for obvious reasons. He has 10 years or so on ML so it's only natural that he's the main attacking full back.

ML gets forward when required and supports his winger in the right way but wit KT playing as a left winger at times it's only natural ML focuses on defending

Agree with this 100%. All very well having 2 attacking fullbacks in spl (Lustig and Gamboa waltzing forward last season, Miller and Ralston v Killie in the cup) but in europe we'd easily be torn up if we were to start leaving gaps.

Has Ralston done anything to suggest he can't defend?

The exact opposite.

Ralston is definitely more of a defensive fullback than an attacking one. It's why he's ahead of Gamboa in the pecking order. He only got forward against Killie because they were so utterly dreadful.

I didn't say he couldn't. :ponder:

Folk suggesting Lustig is done as a RB because he doesn't bomb forward at every opportunity in every game. Just said that, in addition to Tierney getting forward, Lustig and Gamboa go forward more in Scotland depending on the opposition and the kind of game. Both fullbacks going forward in europe would leave us exposed at the back. And mentioned that Miller and Ralston were able to do the same v Killie in the cup due to the level of the opposition.

Played very well last night. Gives the team a nice balance with the more attacking KT on the other side.

ralston said last week that one of the biggest things he is learning just now is how to drop into a back 3 when we have posession so its clear as day the way brendan has us set up.

i think lustig is vastly underrated on here
