I thought he was alright, the 6m man never got into the game at all.
All the talk before the match was about his being vulnerable against McKay's pace.

Post match it's about his poor crossing.

Fair to say he had a decent match defensively.
Wasn't too clever at the goal. Has previous for switching off in that position

Was fine defensively, but he really doesn't offer much at all in an attacking sense.

One of three positions I think we're badly in need of an upgrade in.

What the hell happened to his ability to cross? It's as if he has no strength in his leg. We need a replacement. And I hate saying that as he'd been my favourite player for ages under Lennon and RD.
We have one.

Gamboa's been brilliant when he's been given a game.
Slight exaggeration

Agree on Lustig. Love the guy but Brendan might have to think about signing a new #1 right back for next season.
We still have Janko to come back from his loan spell :ph43r:

The injuries have taken their toll on him. Definitely a weak link. Never, ever stops crosses coming in.

His main issue yesterday was the complete inability to get Forrest in the game. He's so wooden that by the time the he's got the ball under control, he's beginning to get pressed and then has to look for one of the centre halfs to take it from him. Happened in the Hogmanay game as well where we just couldn't get Forrest into it first half, not so much the second.

This, absolutely infuriating. Cost us a goal a Ibrox and he didn't learn this lesson. Has done it a few times over the years.

Agreed.

For a manager and a team that like to play attacking football and press teams I find it strange that Gamboa isn't the #1 choice. He gets forward well and overlaps the attacker, he presses well (see a recent Griffiths goal at Firhill for that), he has amazing recovery pace and for such a small guy he has a good leap so isn't even a weak link in that department.

Lustig has been brilliant for us but he's clearly done in physically. He can't run.

I think in the next couple of years he'll play more games at CB than RB.

I love him but it's painful watching him run.
That and his lack of awareness around the back post are my worries about Lustig over the next few years - He has nothing in him to get back when he is caught up the park.
^^^^

Same old problem.

I really like Lustig, but I was secretly hoping Gamboa got the start to see how he would do against the 6 million pound man.

Unfortunately, now we still don't know if RB is a definite area we need to strengthen (although appears to be). Hopefully he gets the start in the semi and we can see if Gamboa can make the position his own. Right now I agree we need more from the position.

Was a cracking signing and the most consistent player we had - Injuries regressed him to 50% of what he was now he is operating at 25% which we can't afford to carry.
^^^^

I still stick by this - His ability to run at any real speed is completely gone - He is down to a painful to watch jog nowadays and it is going to get worse.

Combining that with his costly lack of awareness issues I am not so sure he warranted a new contract and I say that as someone who over the piece thinks he has been a cracking signing.

I'm not sure what his role will be moving forward given that Forrest will clearly a be major part of this team in the future and Lustig doesn't get the best out of him. I get that having a deeper lying full back on the right makes sense when KT is bombing into the space Sinclair leaves but on the opposite side we're not really able to make the most of JF if the opposition double up when defending him (which they can do if Lustig doesn't offer a credible threat). He's clearly a fantastic guy for the squad and has given his best years to Celtic but i'm not sure if he's the player we need there anymore. Earlier this season he put in great defensive performances against Citeh and Barca but we need him to be able to threaten a Sevco or an Aberdeen or a Hearts otherwise it's an unnecessarily defensive position for us to have when we've already got 2 CBs and at least 1 midfielder sitting deep against these teams.

Tricky one. I feel happier having Gamboa as an option now though.

I think he's fairly decent there and it's looking more and more like he doesn't have the legs to play full back in an aggressive attacking BR team. I'm all for giving Gamboa a run now. There have been other fringe players who came into the team and were rewarded by the manager for playing well, Gamboa came in done very well and rather strangely was relegated back to the bench. He deserves a good few games to show what he can do.

Yep.

Injuries have took their toll, should be backup next season to a new right back, Gamboa isn't good enough.

Time for a spell on the bench. Gamboa has looked really good in his last few appearances so give him a run in the team.
