Hopefully true. Was getting a little worried. I think he's wanted and wants to stay but I can also see us trying to cut a deal he might not be too enamoured with.

BR's comment about him needing to look after himself or something of that ilk (which I took to mean get the best deal financially for himself) made me think an offer had been made but not accepted

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
I would have said his back post defending in the air and on the ground is very strong.
I would actually say that's his main weakness. He seems to switch off in those situations quite often. He seems to tuck in a bit too much when the ball is on the opposite side and sometimes allows crosses from his side to come in too easily.

It's a bit of a cliche but I think it's these little weaknesses (and some injuries) that have meant he has spent some of the peak years of his career with us rather than at a higher level. An excellent, solid, accomplished professional. A cracking signing all round.
I completely disagree with that. I think he judges very well when to tuck in to provide cover for the right sided centre back on the whole. And his positional sense in a defensive sense is quite good - my feeling is that he usually defends the back post very well from crosses or diagonal balls played from the opposition's right hand side and makes regular interventions to divert danger.

Now I await a series of examples of opposition left wingers sneaking in on his blind side to score against us.

Great news. Sounds like he's an important player for us to have in the dressing room, even if he's not as quick as he used to be. He'll be a useful player for us over the next few years, whether it's at right back or filling in at centre half.

Getting noticed in the reserves
[ * * ]
The thing I've noticed about his play recently is he tends to play a lot more negatively. When he receives the ball in the wing area he almost always looks to go backwards or to cut inside, there is next to no link up play with the RW.

I think we would really excel with someone who is able to get forward and link with our attacking players as sadly Lustig isn't capable anymore. Armstrong this season when he played RB is a good example of how we can benefit from a more attacking minded player much similar to the other flank.

I think it's perhaps being neglected somewhat that we don't necessarily play in straight lines and our shape changes in and out of possession. We don't seem to ask our right and left full backs to play the same role.

For example, Tierney/Izaguirre seem to have licence to bomb forward when we have the ball. Whoever's left full can drive into the space vacated by Sinclair as he regularly comes inside and plays as an inverted wide player.

It's a bit different on the other side as we have Forrest playing very much as a winger and Lustig seems to play more cautiously and we often have more of a back three shape when we have the ball with him joining the two centre backs and the left back, as I say, having more freedom.

So Lustig's forays forward are maybe required less than before.

I think that's tactical to try and draw teams out.

Both centre halves have been doing it recently particularly away from home. Sometimes we overplay and it gets us in bother with the recent game at Firhill being an example.

We also tend to go through the middle of the park before it goes back out wide. Very rarely do we see interplay from full backs and wingers in the one move.

Miller's header in the recent 5-1 game. It was a fairly perfect cross, but Lustig got nowhere near it at all. He should've been challenging for the header at least & that would've prevented their goal. He looks as though he's aware of the run that Garner makes, but is unaware of even the presence of Miller. Off the top of my head I can't think of other examples, but it's something I've noticed for quite a while.

Brendan is managing him well, he knows that soon he won't have the legs to play full back and is slowly transitioning him into a centre half.
