McKay who roasted Lustig created 0 chances and was restricted to 1 shot from outside the box.
Such relevant stats when judging Lustigs performance :ffs:

This.

Barry McKay is a good, tidy player. But we pegged him back pretty well. He beat Lustig a few times on the right 40-odd yards from goal and then did nothing with the ball other than overhit a succession of Hollywood passes. His only moment of real quality was in the build up to Miller's missed chance and that was in the middle of the park.

Lustig didn't have a great game (although I thought he ended the game strongly).

What isn't relevant about that? The last few pages are talking about how well McKay played and how Lustig made it easy for him. He done absolutely nothing of note. A few nice touches 50 yards from our goal doesn't mean he had Lustig on toast. If you want an example of a wide player who dominated their head to head look no further than Sinclair vs Tavernier.

Lustig was in a battle with McKay for 90 minutes and no matter how bad you or anyone else think Lustig was McKay was able to create the square root of nothing. The one time that McKay looked like he was getting away from Lustig in a promising position Mikael used his experience and brought him down.

In terms of the second half I can't remember McKay doing anything of note in any one on one situations with Lustig.

Excellent news. And length of contract makes perfect sense. Our first choice RB and apparently 3rd choice centre back. Also plenty of international and CL experience which is important in what is still a fairly young squad.

Lustig's game has deteriorated over the period he has been with us but he is pretty reliable at rightback. Going forward under Brendan I think he could be a utility squad player covering at cb after guys like Ambrose & Boyata are shipped out. We could do better at rb but it isn't a priority pisition that needs strengthened immediately.

I love him but it's painful watching him run.
That and his lack of awareness around the back post are my worries about Lustig over the next few years - He has nothing in him to get back when he is caught up the park.
I'm not sure I've seen it mentioned anywhere before, but that's my biggest concern with Lustig - having no idea that there's any danger behind him at the back post. That's more of a worry for me than his pace.

Still, he's been a great signing for us and if he's signing a new deal then that's genuinely good news

I can't actually see it officially anywhere, that he's signed a 2 year extension with a extra years option.

Guessing Brendan sees him as an older head, who trains & lives in the right way - who can help bring through the youth.
He's also able to play CB & might end up getting more games there than RB?

Good news when official.

I would have said his back post defending in the air and on the ground is very strong.

I would actually say that's his main weakness. He seems to switch off in those situations quite often. He seems to tuck in a bit too much when the ball is on the opposite side and sometimes allows crosses from his side to come in too easily.

It's a bit of a cliche but I think it's these little weaknesses (and some injuries) that have meant he has spent some of the peak years of his career with us rather than at a higher level. An excellent, solid, accomplished professional. A cracking signing all round.

Been unaware of what is happening at your back post and losing goals as has happened is not a little weakness.

Agree with the rest.

Great news, obviously injuries and age are taking a toll and not as good as he used to be but with his experience and he gets what we're about, would be mad not to keep him.

I'm not sure who it was that said it but trying to replace him is a bigger risk than letting him go, I'm hoping we have a right back in the youths and we can mimic Tierney/Izzy on that side of the pitch.
