Paddy Bonner was voted 17th best player in the World in 1989.

Theo Snelders was a few places behind.

It did only take one single fourth place vote for him to take that position to be fair, although quite who would have thought he was the fourth best player in the world at that time is a mystery!

Mind you someone also voted for a guy from Luxembourg as the fifth best player in the world - possibly the same voter?

EDIT - should point out that the Ballon d'Or was a Europe-only affair in those days, which makes the voting slightly more explicable. Slightly.

Ireland and Luxembourg both had one voting representative. Maybe that's the reason?

Were they able to vote for players from their own countries? If so then you could well be right.

Or maybe have a wee agreement with someone from another country? Nah, that would suggest that the top football brass are less than honest. Silly idea.

Messi looks like a wacky snooker player in that outfit. Imagine being that rich and borrowing outfits off Dominic Dale?

The next time you're in the UK, check out HMV. They sell a two disc set with the full game, and colour highlights with footage of supporters for a five spot
