Arsene Wenger's fines system:

The Times

It seems that the cost of repaying that stadium debt has finally taken its toll on Arsene Wenger after leaked photographs revealed the desperate measures the Arsenal manager has started taking to generate money.

At least that is one interpretation after the swingeing fines handed to players for a variety of minor offences, such as arriving late for a team meeting or making a phone call at the club’s London Colney training base in Hertfordshire, were revealed.

Under the system, which is outlined on headed Arsenal paper and signed by Wenger, anyone who fails to pay the fine in cash within a week will have his debt doubled.
The fines range from £100 for wearing outdoor shoes in the dressing room and taking newspapers and phones into the medical room to £1,000 for players who miss home matches without the manager’s permission. Anyone who fails to produce a urine sample two weeks in a row will also be fined.

Wenger also demands players are extremely punctual. The document shows that anyone late for training is fined £250, with that sum doubled to £500 for anyone who fails to be on time for team travel.

Intriguingly, it reveals that phone calls are banned in the training ground with players allowed only to text, while anyone who attempts to dodge commercial activities including “Club Day” receives a £500 punishment.

The images - which also included a picture of the manager’s desk and of the whiteboard showing that Lukas Podolski would miss yesterday’s 2-1 defeat by Chelsea - are believed to have been taken by a friend of Gary O’Driscoll, the club doctor.

Arsenal confirmed to The Sun that the pictures are genuine. “The manager was made aware of the picture being published and we are very disappointed,” the club said. “We will review our procedures.”

Indeed, it seems unlikely that this money will help to fund a splurge in the transfer market for Arsenal, still yet help to repay any stadium debt. With Per Mertesacker, the leaden-footed defender, charged with the role of collecting the debt, Wenger may struggle to raise enough money to pay even for Theo Walcott’s new contract.

The Arsenal fines system
Non-attendance of unused players at home matches without permission of manager £1,000
Late for training, less than 15 mins £250 More than 15 mins £500
Late for treatment/massage less than 15 mins £250 More than 15 mins £500
Late for travel £500
Late for matchday meetings/meals £250
Wrong kit on match days £100
Inappropriate clothing outside of the dressing room £100
Outdoor shoes in the dressing room £100
Newspapers, laptops and phones in the medical room £100
Newspapers in dressing room £100
Non-production of urine sample for two consecutive weeks £200
Phone calls in the building (texting allowed) £500
No participating in commercial activities (including Club Day) £500

How the feck to you get the wrong kit on match days? Do Arsenal not have a kitman?

£1000 seems a bit steep as well for missing a home game, unless it's pretty easy to not attend.

I see no problem with any of these, these chaps are getting paid ridiculous money to represent the club, the least they can do is be professional about it.

Is that young Marc Rieper I spy?... clearly looking for the EXIT sign by the end of the video.

Otherwise, I find it 'ard to disagree with the man, Scott Cannon is a name I have never 'eard of.

underrated by Juventus certainly.

Ho ho, half way through this and lost count of how many killer passes I've seen - phenomenal.

Great stuff, I was looking to dig up a Preben Elkjaer goals vid I watched last year to complement this but no joy, will look again.
