Out of that England World Cup squad, 5 of them come from South Yorkshire.
Just bored myself reading that.

Sorry.

An article looking at the political leanings of the EPL fans. Quite surprised about Man City being left-wing.

Kevin Keegan
It was agony choosing my final England squad for Euro 2000 - phoning the lads who missed out was tough.
I remember breaking the news to John Hartson that I wouldn’t be taking him.
“Kev, I’m Welsh,” he said.
“That’s the spirit, son,” I replied.

Quite interesting.

City's original fan base (not the recent F1 converts) is substantially from East and South Manchester and a few of the other GM council areas like Tameside and Stockport. There's some wealth but it's largely working class.

The former has a few low income areas like Moss Side, Hulme, Burnage etc.

Manchester is also Labour through and through.

I admit I don't know the background to it, but quite surprised by Villa.

I would take that "survey" with a pinch of salt.

Buffon plays his last game for Juventus on Saturday. He's not sure if he will retire completely as of now. Wouldn't surprise me to see him enter politics with Berlusconi’s Forza Italia, the Five Star Movement or the Lega, a rebranded Northern League.

The average Celtic supporter is left of left, middle aged male, little spare cash and likely to work in civil service/care industry/charity.

Yeah, quite clearly a load of bollocks. I doubt there is any men's club anywhere in the world who's typical supporter is "female". For teams that probably have 50-70,000 attending games week in week out, plus the millions more fans around the country and world, a sample size of less than 400 is probably not a good sample size to get a profile of their "typical' supporter.

I understand your average Celtic supporter response, but, I worked predomiately in the IT industry before I retired, mostly for US manufacturers and was always surprised to see generally how many Tims worked in that arena. I discussed it with a mate some years ago and we came to the conclusion that many of US companies, like Honeywell, Digital, or Sun set up in areas where Tims were excluded from Steelworks or whatever due to which school you went to whereas these new Yank manufacturers didn't give give a shampoo.. I guess you would need to ask Tom Devine if thats accurate.

In Ayrshire in the 1950s/1960s, my dad and his brothers broadly went into the multinational companies, which I've always associated with that.

Although, the money on offer was also better than what my dad could get as a tradesman, at the time, with better conditions..

Not sure where else to put this. Anyone else think it's a bit odd that the club will have Brown's testimonial on the same day the women are in a cup final?

The news that he's been dropped from England's World Cup squad won't have gone over well with Joe Hart. He's got rather poor form when it comes to dealing with this sort of thing.

Last year, while filming a package for Children In Need, Joe was invited to a community centre to surprise some young carers and go in goal for a charity penalty shootout. However, when one of the kids (a nine year old) started getting a bit mouthy, taunting Joe about the fact he'd been dropped by Man City and had ended up playing for a shampoo team instead, the keeper's temper flared up and he booted the kid's ball over the community centre and out of the grounds.

Then he didn't let in a single goal for the rest of the day.

The thing that stuck out to me was the amount of games the top 6 had on TV compared to rest of the league. It's only going to strengthen their case of a bigger share of the international rights and a cut to the parachute payments. I think there'll be a giant schism in the coming years in the EPL.

I heard them on the radio discussing the WC and the squad and the general consensus from the panelists was they would find reaching the quarter finals a success.

They may finally have learned after all these years of torture !
