Iniesta's contract with Chinese side Chongquing Dangdai Lifan includes that the club will buy 6 million bottles of wine from his wine company

If he signs he will be the 3rd highest earner in football, behind Messi and Neymar

Not bad considering he’s now a shadow of his former self. Maybe I’m just seeing him on the wrong nights but anytime I’ve watched Iniesta over the past two years, he’s looked to me like a veteran struggling to still do the things that made him one of the greatest midfielders of his generation.

I agree, Barcelona only play him out of sympathy / loyalty!!!!!

He's possibly the greatest midfielder I've ever seen. He had the highest buy out clause in a Barcelona team with Messi in it.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Until recently BT were courting the SPFL over sole ownership of the rights. I’m not too sure if that’s still the case with the deal that they struck with Sky over carriage of BT channels on Sky platforms.

All of this should be clear by the next few months, but I’m optimistic of a decent increase in the value of the SPFL broadcasting revenue.

I just hope it is more transparent. It would be good for the SPFL to share what they want to get out of any future rights agreement and roughly when they expect it to be concluded. There will only be one more full season after next under the present deal, so we should really be seeing evidence of it pretty soon into the new season.

The last two or three have either been hushed up extensions with minimal increases, or been announced before anyone really knew there were talks, with the meagre terms agreed almost going unreported they are that bad. That's also a tactic Sky have used with the EFL, and plenty of their members have been increasingly annoyed by the lack of transparency.

In England, we always know roughly when the PL tender is scheduled for every three years, and the number of packages and games available.

Would be good to know what number of games they see being live and whether they want an increase, rules on number of a home team's games that can be shown (would make a lot more of the better games available), transparency over who all of the potential partners are, how much more total SPFL programming hours are being sought, whether they are considering a streaming platform (obviously aside from existing services on Now TV and the BT Player). If they don't have targets around this, then they should.

The barometer should something like the Danish TV deal.

Sky's deal is a chokehold on crucial elements like the quality of highlights coverage offered domestically, and the MP & Silva produced SPFL highlights programme is also pretty low quality.
SPFL and the Football League have never really recovered from the collapse of OnDigital. The Football League stuck with Sky because they thought there was no real alternative to them and the SPFL (SPL at the time) went to the BBC for a song. Somewhat luckily, the SPFL actually benefited from the exposure the BBC gave them nationally and made them an attractive proposition to Setanta. The SPFL was very profitable for Setanta, but unfortunately not strong enough to raise the profile of the channel. Setanta overstretched itself buying relatively weak packages of Premier League football. The financial collapse of the huns and the failure of Setanta Sports all came within a relatively short time and crucially around the time of the broadcasting rights. The jitters the broadcasters had was understandable and Sky took advantage of the situation by offering the SPFL a low value, but guaranteed long term contract.

The SPFL is actually in a position of strength now. Whatever you may think of the Sevco's appointment of Gerrard, there is no disputing that it has brought eyes on to the league much like our appointment of Rodgers did. You can go on BT's or Sky's sport pages on Facebook or Twitter accounts and you will actively see the promoting the SPFL on them. This couldn't have happened at a better time for the league with the negotiations coming up soon. I'm really hopeful that we could see a decent increase in the value.

French refs are mad bastards. A few of them have just published a book under a pseudonym telling their crazy lifestyle on the road. Gross and stupid, as well as awfully written. If I was the head of the federation, I would just sack all of them.

We are up to something :hmmm:

I’m getting a word in my ear about a “ big announcement “ in the next couple of weeks, maybe even specifically two weeks tomorrow and the source would seem to suggest it has a link to Man City. I’m guessing either Paddy signing or perhaps some Emirates link. If I get more info I’ll stick my neck out and post it. Source is absolutely solid.
All usual caveats apply. Shares can go up as well as down and all that.
