Any of you know the guys who run VideoCelts? They seem to be frothing about the fact Hearts had a ‘donation’ of £2.5m towards the new main stand cost (that is obviously from Ann Budge).

The Huns are living off donations.

I understood Cathkin Park was the home of 3rd Lanark, didn't appreciate it was also Scotland's stadium
Aye. If I understand it correctly, it was sold to Third Lanark when Hampden moved to it's current site in 1903.

I think too, that Cathkin Park was actually the second site for Hampden.

The first one was just across the road, with one end being where the bowling green is now, and the other in what is now the Queen's Park Recreation Ground.
There have been three Hampdens ....all have hosted internationals

The original site is, as Van Diesburg says now partly a bowling club

The second one became "New" Cathkin Oark when Queens Park moved to the current Hampden in 1993

The original Cathkin Park ( on a site to the East of Dixon Halls in Crosshill and now lost beneath many tenements!!) also hosted international matches

Queens Park - yees are talkin pish. Don't go but.
I have read reports today that basically mirror this but there is one small fact curiously missing from the Queen's Park statement; the fact that a 20 year lease was agreed between them and the SFA and to set up the wholly SFA owned Hampden Park Ltd company to eliminate Queen's Park circa £6m debt, which they had accrued through stadium redevelopment. I presume this was caused by the first phase of redevelopment of the North and East stands, done in time for the 1994 Scottish Cup Final.

Is this not the crux of the issue right here? A club like Queen's Park managed to be in a position to accrue such a debt due to their ownership of this stadium. Aware that unlike other clubs of its size that its stadium is a revenue generating asset, but it was only ever going to generate revenue if it was completely modernised at considerable expense, something that would appear to be completely beyond it without Lottery and SFA money.

Due to lower interest rates the scheduled amount the SFA have had to pay annually has been less than forecast and they've built up about £3m in reserves, which is still not going any way to addressing the needed redevelopment of Hampden to make it a better stadium post 2020.

Seems like an absolutely intractable mess that will only be resolved when the SFA reluctantly agree to a new Hampden lease, but with no funding source to completely revamp it.

The statement makes a fair point about the cost to the SFA of not renewing the lease. The SRU, Celtic, Sevco, Hibs etc, are not offering use of their stadium up to 10 times a season for nothing.

I wonder if him and Bertie Auld get on now, given he was told he wasn't good enough.

Was a good interview although McAvennie seems a bit old fashioned in some of his views. Some were common sense. He really didn't like the old board.

Was funny seeing him call Mo Johnston 'Judas', always figured that was a fans thing rather than ex player/team mate.

Sure I read somewhere his dog died just after that interview :(

There were lots of different sports grounds in Glasgow that have disappeared as the city had grown

Was even a racetrack (horses) in the east end

Two excellent books ...."Played in Glasgow" and "As the Willow Vanishes" have lots of details ...the second one shows the influence of cricket on the development of football

Re: Cricket & Football.

Scotland v England (1872) was the first ever official international association football match to be played. The match took place on 30 November 1872 at West of Scotland Cricket Club's ground at Hamilton Crescent in Partick, Scotland. The match finished in a 0–0 draw and was watched by 4,000 spectators.

I used to sneak on there and play football as a lad.

Used the Huns goals as they used to train there before they built their complex.

I read his autobiography.,.its hardly pulitzer prize material but read it on a flight to Oz as purchased at Glasgow Airport.

He seemed not to like Judas very much and even described an incident where he caught Judas watching Maccas very own burd having a shower.

Creepy wee carrot in every sense.

That's some signing. Hopefully guys like Clarke and Coyle being in the SPFL will bring more signings like that, hes hardly kicked a ball in 3 years but a good chance for guys like that to get their careers back on track.

Always rated him as a decent player a level above Kilmarnock though just shows decent managers attract decent players regardless of the level they are at. If he performs he could make a move to a mid table side next season like rangers.
