Wasn't sure where to put this so excuse me if this is the wrong thread. Can anyone remember why it looks like half the Celtic end of Hampden was shut in the game Konterman scored in at us?
They were putting in bigger screens for the 2002 CL final.

However, while regular football in MLS can help young players develop, the league’s bureaucratic sales process can often prevent players from leaving the league, and attempting to improve their game abroad. This past winter, Celtic were working hard to secure Portland midfielder Darlington Nagbe a move to Scotland. However, sales are negotiated not just with the club, but the league itself. Teams acquire two-thirds of the transfer earnings for most players, with Homegrown Players netting the selling club three-quarters of the profit. In Nagbe’s case, Celtic’s initial $1.5m bid was deemed insufficient, and their follow-up $3m offering still didn’t move the needle. The feeling around the league was that Portland weren’t happy with $1m or $2m for Nagbe. The single-entity league’s cut may have scuppered a chance for a key national team player to blossom.

Ironically, a lot of the Central American teams that squeezed the US out of qualification, Costa Rica, Panama, and Honduras, are built on players that play in MLS. I'm also beginning to suspect that not getting Nagbe was a blessing in disguise, Just doesn't do it for me, and was non factor in the US loss to TnT.

Looks like Columbus Crews move to Austin is happening. Also a lot of MLS team are pulling their reserve teams from USL.
Sad about the Crew, technically the first MLS "franchise", but they just don't play in a good market for pro sports (OSU Buckeyes are really the only game in town, in Columbus). Having said that, the current owner is a bit of an absentee land lord sort of dick that thinks holding cities to ransom for new stadiums is the way to go. Sure he'll keep the Crew in Columbus, if the city builds him a new fancy stadium, and Austin doesn't build him a new fancy stadium. Crew stadium is less than 20 years old ffs, you don't need a new stadium, you need better marketing. A minor league team an hour away in Cincinnati gets more people in for games as the Crew does. Texas doesn't need another team, and even if they did, I doubt Austin is the place to be.
Any time i've saw the Sounders play the Crew the stadium has been empty in Columbus. Apparently they have an awful tv deal as well which makes it difficult to access and they purged their 'ultra's'. Pretty crappy announcing it after taking the season ticket money then not offering refunds and forcing the fans into a lame duck season.

There's definitely some teams I would like to get their crap fixed in MLS. New England's situation is a joke. Get them their own stadium closer to Boston or get them to eff. Feel like they are treated like a token gesture by the Kraft family.

Dallas should have far bigger attendances than what they get. Apparently their stadium is nowhere near Dallas and is only accessible via a tolled highway.

NYCFC need to get out of Yankee stadium. It's an effin baseball stadium with terrible sightlines for football. The Yankees are already starting to force them out with more and more games at East Hartford.

There shouldn't be 2 LA teams. LA can't support 2 NFL teams, what chance does MLS.

Cincinnati needs a team before Austin and probably should have got one before Nashville.

I'm glad DC are finally getting out of the dump that is RFK stadium next year.

Minnesota needs to get rid of the college football logos and lines until they move in to their stadium.

That's the frustrating thing about Columbus, they had a good solid base to build on, but this Precourt guy just sort of let them stagnate. There's no marketing outside the Columbus area, I live in Cleveland, and Columbus is pretty much the only pro soccer team with in a reasonable drive, and they don't do anything to try and get fans up here. And of course the TV deal, just awful, it was if Precourt was trying to trigger a clause in the Stadium lease that allowed him to go to one specific city in Texas, and no where else.

Yeah it's weird. I think Austin would be an okay MLS market given the quirkiness, college town vibe of the area that seem attracted to MLS. I just think there's other areas more deserving- St Louis, Cincinnati who's USL attendances are really good and possibly San Diego.

Given the fact though that a lot of the new MLS team have been big successes such at Atlanta, Minnesota, Orlando this one seems a bit riskier. I think Nashville will do well though.

Never understood the reluctance to put a team in St Louis. If there is one city where soccer has always been popular it is St. Louis. An MLS team there would probably do real well. And would generate a good rivalry with Chicago, which the midwest needs. Can see Cincinnati getting a team now, they've done a real good job with CFC. Though as Clevelander I would find it hard to root for a Cincytucky team. :boik: Overall MLS is doing pretty good for itself, and hopefully the lack of US team in Russia won't hurt too much, though every WC does seem to put just a few more seats in the grounds every 4 years.

Definitely think geographical rivalries help. The cascadia rivalry definitely draws a lot of fans up here. Think chicago needs that given its poor attendances.

With the rams leaving st louis there's only the cardinals and blues in that market. With SKC being well run it would force st louis to try and make an effort to be good to match that. Its why id like the revolution to be nearer boston and compete with the ny teams.

Interesting piece on Damian Duff and his role as a youth coach at Shamrock Rovers. It’s crazy to think that there are parents arguing with a man with 100 caps and medals at the highest level.

More fascinating exclusives from Graeme Souness - John Collins and Ray Houghton nearly signed for Rangers....but they didn't.

Meanwhile, the Daily Record shrieks about how badly Bild rated our players - I am shocked, appalled and very ashamed that Bild thought our players were really bad.

Collins is hardly an exclusive. Well known that he was talking to them before he signed for us.

Embarassing from CQN. Ronny has a better manager than Keane, who won the championship and kept Sunderland up for a season? Give me peace. I don't disagree with a word that Roy said about our performance.

Yeah, that and improving the turnstiles and general access and egress arrangements at that end of the ground for the CL final.

Can remember being in one of the traditional sections of the hun end for that one, nearest the North Stand.

A boy in my work had a workie standing right next to him with a hard hat on. He didn't feel particularly safe  The poor guy actually had a nightmare that day. First, he went into Michaels chippy to get a bag of chips. Then a few huns appear amongst the Celtic fans, horse-mounted police go to try and calm any potential situation down and the horse's arse scuds him and sends him and the chips flying. After the game, he couldn't get in touch with his mate to get a lift home, so had to walk back into town to get a train home.

I've tried telling him the horse done him a favour as Michaels is a shampooehole, but I don't think that consoles him tbh
